The Browne coat of arms on the fan is inaccurate: the shield is divided per pale in silver and black, but the double-headed eagle is silver and not contrastively tinctured. The motto is: Fortitudine et Prudentia / Fidem Serwabo (sic!) Genusque = I maintain Faith and Family with Fortitude and Prudence. The coat of arms is published by Siebmacher without the motto, whereas Gritzner Hildebrandt published it with a shorter one. 4 Siebmacher, see above, p.27. 5 The last member of the family branch that had settled in Russia was Johann Georg, who was born in 1714. When the fan was made he was already 44 years old. From the Austrian branch it is only Philipp Georg who had descendants in Austria and Bohemia.
