23. Krishna Bronze. South-India, 18th century. Height: 29.5 cm. The image represents Krishna as Vishnu, that is, with Vishnu's attributes. At the bottom is a rectangular base; the figure stands on a lotus pedestal in tribhanga ("three bends") posture, leaning on his left leg with his weigh and crossing his right leg in front of it. His two hands are raised as if holding a flute. In his upper hands he has a cakra and a shankha (disc and conch-shell) respectively. On his head he wears the headgear characteristic of Vishnu. The statuette is an 18th century specimen of an old South Indian type. The supports at the back side were cast together with the figure. It is a well-proportioned work, finely elaborated not only at the front but at the back as well. Purchased from A. Madarász. Inv.no.: 90.23.1. 24. Dragon-shaped armlet Silver. Burma, early 19th century. Diam. 10 cm, width 10.5 cm, weight 151 grams. The armlet, made of a bent silver sheet, is formed into the shape of a dragon's head. The dragon has eight tusks in its open mouth and has small horns (2.5 cm) coming out of the upper part of its head. Its nose and eyes form an integral part of a rich ornamental design of flowers, foliated scrolls, and acanthus leaves combined with the scales of the dragon's skin and covering the entire surface of the armlet with the exception of the upper edge. The ornamentation is finely elaborated using different techniques: engraving, repoussé and punching. As far as function was concerned, it was most probably part of a warrior's battle equipment. Purchased from A. Madarász. Inv.no.: 90.8.1. (Zsuzsanna Renner)
