"Stream" By Gitta Várnai, 1981 Hemp-thread glued on linen cloth 83 x 83 cm Lengths of hemp-thread becoming thinner and thicker alternately. Spread on natural linen cloth tightened across a wooden frame. Inv. No. 87.29 38. Painted window-blind (4 pieces) Today's Slovakia (Upper Hungary before 1920), 2nd half of the 19th century 183 x 106 cm 1. In front of trees with leaves there is a lake ; on its shores a fair-haired little girl on a pink blanket plays with blue leaves. A blue-skirted maid standing in the water undresses her. 2. In front of leafy trees a female figure descending a flight of stairs feeds a swan. 3. In front of blue leafy trees, a red-gowned female figure sitting on a stone bench offers grapes to a pheasant with her left hand, holding a basket of grapes in her right hand. 4. In front of trees with blue leaves one sees a lakeside with pebbles. Standing in the water, a maid with a wreath of flowers clad in a red skirt lifts her dress with her left hand and puts her right hand round a little girl to help her step forward. Inv. Knotted carpet By Eliel Saarinen, cca 1908 Knotted from woollen thread with using the so-called ryijy technique 313 x 196 cm Neutral colour and brown ; a birch tree fills the entire surface. On its lower edge knot­ted in red; MAROTI (POLDI) PUCZI (GÉZA) PIM and two glasses with stems. 40. Knotted carpet By Eliel Saarinen or Géza Maróti, 1910-14 From woollen thread knotted using the ryijy technique 360 x 184 cm Knots in neutral colour, yellow, brown, green and violet-red, with medium blue wefts. The surface is filled with a huge Jesse tree, above it are four deer running from right to left. Inv. No. 87.172.1
