8. Puppy. 10 Ivory. Length: 3,8 cm. (Fig. 6) A finely carved puppy, playing with the string of a wooden sandal. Fine engraved hair, black inlaid eyes. Yellowed on the himotoshi side, with a rather worn himotoshi. Signature in cursive script: Rantei. 11 A prominent netsuke carver in Kyoto, at the end of the 18th century. 12 Uzume, with the masque of Tengu. Wood. 4,2 X 3,7 cm. (Fig. 7) In the front of grimacing masque a tiny chubby Uzume is embracing the big nose of the masque with one hand, holding the other one bashfully on her chin. There is a fan on the back side of the masque on the handle of which we find the signature: Shugetsu. A
