55 57. InrÖ of large size, of five cases, carved in red, tsuishu lacquer. Internal channels (Fig. 57). Inside gold nashiji, the rims gold-painted. Rocks, flowering prunus branches and peonies on both sides in high relief on finely carved asa-no-han ground. The decoration is connected on both sides. 8.6X6 cm. Late 18th century. This is a carefully carved lacquer work. The decoration extends to the bottom and lid of the inrô. A tsuishi inrô of the Behrens collection decorated with bamboo, peach- and pine-trees may be mentioned as a parallel. 27 58. Inro of carved red lacquer; four cases. Internal channels (Fig. 58). The sides end in an edge. Inside black-painted. On one side garden and pavilion with three Chinese. Pinetrees and clouds in the background. On the other side pine-tree, flowering prunus branch and bamboo. The decoration is carved on fine asa-no-ha ground. On the bottom of the 138
