five to the "broad" category. There is no transversal measurements falling into the "narrow" category. Of the 7 vertical measurements four belongs to the "medium" and three to the "low" category. The latter appear on the facial skeleton: upper facial height, orbital height, chin height. There is no vertical measurements falling into the "high" category. The sagittal measurements of the female crania are similar to the male ones. Of the 13 measurements two fall into the "long", eight into the "medium" and three measurements into the "short" category (basi-nasal length, basi-alveolar length, mandibular length). Of the 15 transversal measurements twelwe belong to the "medium" and three to the "broad" category; the "narrow" form does not appear here either. Finally, among the 7 vertical measurements there are six in the "medium" and one in the "low" category (chin height). If we compare after all the 54 measurements and indices of the male and female crania, we find that their 67 per cent belongs to the identical class category. On this basis we may draw the conclusion: since the outward form of appearance of men and women is closely related, it is probable that their taxonomical character and even their origin are identical. Another problem has to be dealt with here.By chemical analysis, I. LENGYEL has distinguished two major and one minor groups in the Pécs series. However, the anthropological characteristics of the two major groups are not different either from the metric or the morphological point of view. The third group, defined by LENGYEL as that of mixed "alien" individuals in opposition to the first two, is unsuitable for anthropological group investigation because of the small number of cases. Nevertheless, the outward appearance of two men (graves 84, 104) and of
