Mongoloid elements (always subject to some subjectivity), were formed, considering only the most important criteria. She Cromagnoid. and Nordoid subgroups one by one showed the greatest proportions. Comparative investigations were made by the applications of PENROSE'S "Distance, size and shape" method. It should be emphasized that though the method has a mathematical basis it is still not exact but approximative. Furthermore, the definition of similarity as formulated mathematically by PENROSE is in .my opinion debatable from more than one side (detailed in the main text). In the course of the comparative ::m.alysis I desisted from establishing the limit of significance, since its designation is to a certain degree arbitrary and, in this case at least, there is nothing more than a comparison of a relative character involved. Table 5 shows the .ratios and values, obtained by Penrose's method, of the population of the Oroszvár cemetery as related to the 32 male and 26 female series drawn into the comparison, and in the order of sequence of the rate of similarity. I wish to note that the major part of the series listed in the Table derives from a given cemetery each, but the material of seven series was combined from the osteological remains of several cemeteries. Values obtained from these latter Bust, of course, be assessed during comparison according also to other points of view. These groups are specially noted in the comparison. The series drawn into comparison .were selected by geographical , chronological, and archeological sriteria. The examination was based on the twelve, possibly most characteristic absolute measurements of the skulls. The sequence of similarity shown in the Table was compared with the type diagnosis and - if given - also- with the morphological descriptions of the authors discussing the material of the locality. It is beyond the scope of the present paper to submit in detail the results of this comparison, therefore I state on-
