AMERIKAI MAGYAR SZÓ Thursday, Feb. 26. 1981. 2. Reagan’s “Two Front War” Billy Graham’s visit to Hungary The Reagan budget proposals, heralded by the N.Y. Times as a “Message on Economic Recovery,” have just been presented before the Congress. Nothing could be further from the truth than to call this a program for economic recovery. This is a program for war, war on two fronts, It is a program, first, for accelerated preparations for aggressive war against the Soviet Union and the so­cialist countries of the world. It is a program,second^ for intensified war against the peoples of the United States, war against their living standards, to fatten the huge profits of the great financial monopolies and to get more money for the war budget. The entire propaganda machine owned by mono­poly capital, television, ^stress and radio, has been turned loose on the American people to sell one of the greatest lies of the age, that “the Soviets have made significant numerical advantage,” i using Rea­gan’s words, in military systems, that they plan t-o attack the United States and that the United States must make “financial changes beginning now,” to quote Reagan again, to catch up militarily. if the Soviet Union is planning to attack the United States why would they wait until we “catch up” in military strength? Wouldn’t it be a smarter military move to attack immediately, while they are still “ahead” according to the stories we are told? Is it because they are stupid? Not even the worst enemies of socialism have ever accused them of that. The fact is that the whole “Soviet aggression” scare is a lie from beginning to end. It is the Soviet Union, continuing the policy of peaceful coexis­tence, established after World War I, pushed for Salt I, which was finally signed, and Salt II (Strate­gic Arms Limitation Treaty), which was signed and then killed by the reactionary forces here, against the interests of the people of the United States. Now the reactionary government of Reagan is preparing to really turn the screws on, to squeeze down all the peoples benefit programs, they can get away with, to promote the interests of the huge monopolies that are their real bosses behind the thin camouflage that hides the big money boys from the public. Unemployment payments, medi­cal care, food for the poor, jobs and education for the young aid for mass transit, aid for farmers and rural communities, needed social services of many kinds, all are attacked in this program. But not the military budget. That is scheduled to go from 24 % at present to 32 % of national government expen­ditures by 1984. But the American people are not lemmings, the little animals that rush blindly in great masses to their own destruction. The hard facts will be made 'clear by life itself, and the people will find their way to effective organization for blocking and re­versing the Reagan program. Joseph Budish In Budapest (population: two million) crimes committed by minors have decreased significantly in recent years. In 1971. courts sentenced some 1800 minors, in 1979 their number was down to 869. Baptist pastor Dr. Billy Graham, a well-known personality of the United States, visited Hungary from January 7 to 10 at the invitation of the Hungarian Reformed Church. This visit was signifi­cant not only because of the invitee’s personality but also because of the invitation. By inviting Dr. Bil­ly Graham,the Hungarian Reformed Church again proved that in international relations it deems re­ligion as a means for expressing the desire for peace cherished by countries with divergent social systems. Ez a település csak azért maradt meg katolikus­nak, mivel a református es egyeb hittérítők, annak­idején, nem találtak rá. Az első világháború utáni pap Szabó Dénes plébá­nos ur volt, a kántor meg szegény édesapám; jó­magam pedig a kántorsegéd; ugyanis, ha én hiányoz­tam, nem szólt az orgona, melynek mindenkori fuvonyomoja voltam. E munkában csak vasár- és ünnepnap akadt, aki felváltott» a papot vagy apámat senki sem váltotta fel. Emlékszem, júliusi vasarnap volt, amikor is csak a bakter, mint tűzfigyelö, nem volt a templomban. A pap prédikált és az öt hízott libájáról beszélt, melyeket akkor éjjel loptak el tőle. Ekkor jutott eszembe, hogy neki nemcsak libaja, de páratlan szép gyümölcsöse is van, Észrevétlenül kiosontam, hiszen tudtam, hogy a templomot senki sem hagyhatja el. Urfelmutatáskor, amikor az “Ez nagy Szentség va­lóban ”-t enekeltek, akkor haraptam bele abba a szép vackorba, melyben a darázs volt. (Hogy milyen ordítással, bőgéssel fcsusztam le a fáról, arról beszélt minden vénasszony a rákövetkező héten.) Persze, amint a nyelvem beledagadt a szamba,mar nem sírtam, csak bőgtem, nyöszörög­tem. A templomból kijövök azt hittek, alma vagy körte van a szambán, amit nem tudok kivenni. Apámnak es a papnak nyomban jelentettek, hogy a kis Zolikába beleütött a nyavalya, mert ott fetreng a templom lépcsőjén és beszélni semmit sem tud. Apám a hátára vett és a pap (akinek két nappal előbb a kedves macskáját felakasztottam, mert meg­ette a nyulaimat) a lábamat fogta, úgy vittek az agyba, ahol sósborszeszt, ecetet fröcsköltek a számba. Két-három napig higan főzött grízt kaptam, no meg egy csomo csokot az édesanyámtól. Par napra rá elmondtam az apámnak, hogy szent­mise végén sürgősen W.C.-re kellett mennem es ek­kor találtam a mi kertünkben a földön a körtét, amelyben a darazs volt. Ez a “nagy” történet eleg volt ahhoz, hogy a darazstol jobban féljek, mint bárki más az életben. Földes Zoltán
