REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA 13 The “peace” priority was seen in terms of the concern of the church for the “world community”: “the strivings of the third world for justice . . . escalation of the war in Indo China . . . the effect of defense expenditure on domestic economy.” “The United Church of Christ must reaffirm its commitment to peace and find more creative ways of expressing that commitment,” Mr. Pirazzini said. The biennial meeting of the General Synod of the United Church of Christ in June will focus the attention of 701 delegates on the four priority issues. Specifics of budget and program are expected to emerge at that meeting. U.C.C. Off. of C.-------------^ -----------------“For a big power to station troops without the consent of a small country, and what is still worse, to suppress people and to impose on the helpless government its own puppets and stooges, is the most despicable form of colonialism. Yet, this is exactly what has been happening in Hungary.” Uba Swen, Prime Minister of Burma ON THE PICTURE: Rev. Moses Waweru, Rev. István Csákány, Mrs. Csákány and daughter, Tünde. OUR MISSIONARY IN KENYA NOW LISTEN, CHRISTIAN! I was hungry and you formed a humanities club and discussed my hunger. I was imprisoned and you crept off quietly to your chapel in the cellar and prayed for my release. I was naked and in your mind you debated the morality of my appearance. I was sick and you knelt and thanked God for your health. I was homeless and you preached to me of the spiritual shelter of the love of God. I was lonely and you left me alone to pray for me. You seem so holy; so close to God. But I’m still very hungry and lonely and cold. So where have your prayers gone? What have they done? What does it profit a man to page through his book of prayers when the rest of the world is crying for his help? Illlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll MEWS ETEMS iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii The world would be better off If people tried to become better; And people would be better If they stopped trying to become better off; For when everyone tries to become better Everybody is better off. PRESBYTERIAN REUNION Plans to reunite the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. and the Presbyterian Church in the U. S. (Southern) will be presented to the General Assemblies of both churches in spring ’71 for a year’s study and reaction. Final action could come in ’73. K.Y.P. INTEREST IN RELIGION STUDY RISES Rising interest in graduate study of religion is reported by Dr. Claude Welch, on leave from University of Pennsylvania to study graduate education in religion. About 700 students are now working for the Ph.D. in religion at 53 colleges Half of the Ph.D. doctoral programs have been established in the last 10 years. He urges broadening the field beyond biblical studies to include Far Eastern studies and breaking down barriers between fields of study. K.Y.P. NINE BISHOPS . . . of the Roman Catholic Church will become members of the National Council of Churches’ Faith and Order Commission. The decision by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops to accept the commission’s invitation follows a Vatican decision to authorize nine R. C. members on the World Council’s Faith and Order Commission. K.Y.P.
