8 AMERIKAI MAGYAR REFORMÁTUSOK LAPJA dományos és hivatalos értékelése, állami osztályozása a legelső helyek egyikét biztosítja ez intézet számára a hasonló iskolák között. Azt kellene gondolnunk, hogy a magyar ifjúság tömegesen keresi föl ezt az iskolát, ahol nemcsak rendes tanulmányait végezheti éppen olyan sulylyal és tekintéllyel, mint bármely más, a legjobbnak elismert iskolában is, hanem azonfelül magyar ismereteket is szerezhet a maga számára. Magyar ismereteket, amelyeket nem valami külön munkával kell megszereznie, mert a magyar tárgyak után éppn olyan creditet kapnak, mint bármely más tárgy után. Most, amikor bezáródik egy iskolai év és nemsokára kezdődik majd a másik, a legkomolyabb lélekkel hívjuk föl a magyar ifjúság figyelmét a lancasteri főiskolára. Tanulásuk dollárokban is jóval kevesebb kerül, mint bármely más iskolában, — értékben pedig hasonlíthatatlanul többet nyernek, mint bármely más iskolában. Miért kell a magyar ifjúságnak évenként ezreket költenie másutt, amikor Lancasterben jóval kevesebb költséggel magyar lelki kincseket is szerezhet a maga számára? . . . Vájjon az a magyar lélek, az a magyar tudás nem volna méltó arra, hogy meggondoltan és magyar öntudattal válasszuk meg iskolánkat? Fölhívjuk erre az ifjúságnak is, a szülőknek is a figyelmét. A szülőket talán még inkább terheli ezen a téren a felelősség, mert amikor gyermekeikért súlyos áldozatokat hoznak: nekik sokkal inkább kellene ügyelniük arra. hogy ez áldozatokkal szemben fiaikból ne vesszen el a magyar lélek, a magyar gondolat. NATIONAL HUNGARIAN CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR UNION CONFERENCE. August 10, 11 and 12. Lackawanna, New York. At the sixth annual conference of the Hungarian Christian Endeavor Union in Cleveland last summer the Union accepted the invitation of the Lackawanna Young People’s Society to be tiheir guests for the next conference. That same conference appointed a general Conference Committee which met in Cleveland on May 30. The Committee selected the dates for the conference and planned the program, which will be announced later. On behalf of the National Conference Committee and the Lackawanna Young People’s Society we cordially invite every Hungarian Protestant Young People’s and Christian Endeavor society to attend this conference in Lackawanna, N. Y., on August 10, 11 and 12. This is the year when city, state, national and international groups have been meeting to take inventory of their expenditures. As a result some items will be discarded and some retained. Let us learn from their example and come together to this conference to revaluate our expenditures of time, energy and money. At no time within the past several years have people stopped to think like at the present. Our sense of values is being changed overnight and all of a sudden we have realized that time, energy and money have been spent on things harmful in themselves and in their effects on us. The Christian Church is awakening slowly to the fact that not all church members are Christians. Intelligent followers of Christ are realizing that in a supposedly Christian world there is much which is not Christ-like and there is a widespread effort to bring His teachings into practice. A national Hungarian C. E. Conference is very valuable at all times and especially so now. Economic, social and political conditions will not improve until nations adopt and practice the principles of Jesus Christ. The efforts of a nation to reform are futile unless its citizens cooperate. We are a small group in this great nation but our influence can be large provided we are headed in the right direction. A meeting of this kind is a splendid place to help find the solution to individual as well as national problems. Many things are unworthy of your time, many activities are not worth the energy spent on them and certainly much that we buy and pay for is not worth the money. Come to this conference, young people, it will help you to find the best and finest in life. Here we will worship, study and play together and help ourselves that we may help others.
