HUNGARIAN REFORMED FEDERATION ORPHANAGE Dedicated With Appropriate Exercises July 4th. 1,000 Visitors Present. 25th Anniversary of Federation. For the benefit of our American friends and of all those, who are kindly interested in the spiritual welfare of the Hungarian Protestants in this Country, — we find pleasure in reprinting an article of the Ligonier Echo, — describing so sympathetically the dedication of the Orphans Home of the Hungarian Ref. Federation. For a number of years the Hungarian Protestants felt the necessity of establishing a charitativ institution of their own, where fatherless and motherless Hungarian children, could find either temp orarily or if necessary permanently a home and the needed care. Intuitív humanitarian feeling, as well as Christian charity seeked an outlet of the hearts of our good Hungarian people, when they felt the inspiration of founding such an institution as the Orphans Home. The idea originated some ten years ago with the Federation of Hungarian Benefit Societies, a mutual benefit association with a membership of about eight thousand. This splendidly administered organization has the best reputation among the Hungarians in this Country. Its officers are devoted Christian men of the finest type, to be found among any nationalities in this land. The constituent members are in 99 percent members of good standing in the congregations scattered in nearly 200 prominent Hungarian center in the U. S. Men and women of other denominations, such as catholics or even Jews; — are admitted to membership, — but they all must acknowledge the strictly religious character of the organization and adhere to its rules. The Federation has just accomplished a service of 25 years of Christian charity,—unparelelled in the history of the Hungarians in America, and fittingly crowning this service of Christian charity, — unparelelled in the history of the Hungarians in America, — and fittingly crowning this service of Christian love; — opened the doors of the Hungarian Orphans Home at Ligonier, — Pa. offering shelter and home for those, who are Hungarians by birth and Calvinistie by the faith of their deceis- ed parents, but who will be through and through Americans. ' We have all guarantee , — that the institution will be conducted in American spirit, — serving its purpose as a charitativ institution for the Hungarian Protestants during the transient years of assimilation. The Editor. The Orphanage which is being established in the former Ligonier Park Hotel, the purchase of which by the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America has been previously mentioned in the Echo, was formally opened and dedicated July 4th. This was also the 25th anniversary of the organization. Patriotic and religious exercises appropriate to the occasion were conducted by visiting ministers from several towns in the Pitts- burgharea. Rev. Alex. Toth of Cleveland, treasurer of the Federation, was present, delivering the chief address of the day. The invocation and prayer of consecration was made by Rev. Harsanyi of Homestead. Rev. Stephan Kovach of Pocahontas, Va. read the Scripture lesson^ choosing 2nd Cor. 2nd chapter. Mr. Cover of Johnstown gave and address of welcome, while Rev. Kalassy resident minister, made an appeal for the support of the Institution. The 89th Psalm was sung and Rev. Székely of Brownsville offered the prayer of benediction. The program thus rendered was carried out in a most impressive manner by those participating, from the front porch of the building. This was gayly decorated with “Old Glory” and the tri-colors, red, green and white, of the Federation.
