World famous Hungarian dance at Citrus College The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, regarded as one of the greatest folkloric dance ensembles in the world, has performed in 44 countries across four continents and won the admiration of an audience of more than seven and a half million people. Its aims were to collect and play authentic folk music and to preserve the folk dances and traditional costumes of Hungary and Hungarian-inhabited areas by putting them on stage before the public. During the more than six decades of its existence, the Ensemble has achieved its aim by revitalizing the culture of the Hungarian people. Their rich and colorful repertoire entitles the Ensemble to be regarded as one of the top touring groups in the world. The choreographies are all based on authentic dances, some of them collected in isolated villages with dance elements dating back hundreds of years. The extraordinary folk music that inspired Liszt, Bartók and Kodály is put on stage by both the Folk Orchestra and the world-famous Gipsy Orchestra. The members of the Folk Orchestra play authentic, traditional instruments and perform Hungarian folk music at its highest artistic level. The famous Gipsy Orchestra plays both dance accompaniments and performs alone. Their rich repertoire includes folk music which inspired Hungarian and international classical composers such as Liszt, Brahms, Kodály and Bartók. Approximately 500 people attended this year’s Magyar Nap to celebrate Hungarian culture, cuisine and folklore dance. The festivities kicked off with both the American and Hungarian national anthems sung by Jill Pongracz Murrell and invocations from Rev.’s Peter Toth and Alana Kelley. Julia Fide, the Lorain International Festival Hungarian Princess, welcomed those in attendance and thanked them for supporting the Hungarian community. Toth said the event is the highlight of the year for the Hungarian community, and gives them an opportunity to bring together those who may not be familiar with Hungarian culture through food and music. “The tradition refined by the unique Hungarian experience is contributed to the life of our neighborhoods. The love and freedom has always been the main impetus keeping our people on the tracks and inspiring our friends,” Toth said. Toth said the first Sunday in August is an opportunity to have good times with friends and to remember the great predecessors as Hungarians — especially King Stephen I — who at the turn of the first millennium called to his people into the family of Christ, granting a future to God’s Hungarians. “God was gracious to us, because we have this beautiful weather and a wonderful organization, which allows us to have this opportunity to celebrate Hungarian culture with others,” Toth said. The Hungarian Council serves as an organization of representatives for Lorain County’s two Hungarian Churches: The Hun-Augusztus 23,2013 O garian Reformed Church in Lorain and the Magyar United Church of Christ in Elyria, according to John Peters, president of the AHC. Peters said the purpose of the organization and the Magyar Nap is to keep the Hungarian heritage alive by raising funds and making monetary donations to the churches, as well as organizations such as the American Red Cross, Clothe-A-Child, Catholic Services and the Hungarian Foundation. “It is a day for renewing old friendships, enjoying good music, dancing and good Hungarian food,” Peters wrote. momingjournal.com .»»»»imu Highest Quality Care at the Best Price!
