IT WAS A GREAT SUCESSIU Close to a hundred people attended the opening reception of the Exhibition of Hungarian Painters in California and Hungary 4+1 - HERE AND THERE... SUSAN DOBAY - FERENC BESZE - EDITH DITTERT - EVA MATTE and TÜNDE HEGEDŰS at the United Hungarian House on January 11, 2009 at 5.00 PM. Opened by AMBASSADOR BALÁZS BOKOR, Consul General of Hungary Hungarian by birth, Sltsan Dobay currently resides in California . After studying graphic arts both in Hungary and the U.S, she served as an illustrator for advertising agencies; magazines, and newspapers. Wanting to explore more creative options, Susan Dobay moved from commercial to fine art, and in 1968 she was invited to join and exhibit with the Alliance of Hungarian Artists both in the United States and abroad. In Los Angeles Dobay helped found the Arany Janos Hungarian Literary and Cultural Circle . Since her work has been exhibited world wide in museums, galleries and public buildings. Artist’s Statement: ‘Although I derive inspiration from various sources - e.g., music, nature, the human condition - I try to find the balance between matter and soul. My goal is to involve viewers in a creative game where both the mind and the heart are stimulated.’ Ferenc Besze was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary . His love for art surfaced early on in his childhood when he filled all his textbooks with drawings to the frustration of his teachers and parents. Presently he lives in San Francisco Bay Area. Ferenc exhibited locally, nationally, and internationally. His paintings are in private collections in the United States and Europe . Ferenc’s paintings have also won numerous awards and his work was featured in the millennium issue of the International Artists Magazine Master Painters of the World section. He is a signature member of the Society of Western Art­ists and an active supporter of different fundraisers, which benefit humanitarian causes. Edith Dittert was born in Kecskemet , Hungary and immigrated to the U.S. in 1956; now residing in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1972. She began her coursework at Diablo Valley College in 1985, and has participated in several workshops with leading Bay Ai ' ,;u“c tr> paint flowers and landscapes in abstract and realistic style, as well as n from hand-made papers collected during her travels to the Orient. Putin Says Europe Gas Crisi MOSCOW (AFP) - The gas crisis that has hit Europe is getting worse despite intensive efforts to resolve it quickly, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Sat­urday. “Despite all the efforts that have been made, the crisis is wors­ening,” Putin said as he began talks with Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, whose country repre­sents the European Union. Topolanek, current holder of the European Union presidency, has stepped in to try to broker a deal over the crisis that has left tens of thousands of Europeans without heating. The Czech prime minister said during the meeting in Moscow that he would not leave the region until Russian gas again began to flow through Ukraine to cus­tomers in Europe. “I have sent a signal to Ukrainian leaders that I will stay in the region until we get the gas flowing,” Topolanek said. Russia cut off gas for Ukraine’s domestic market on New Year’s Day in a payment dispute and followed a week later by cutting off all gas transiting Ukraine for Europe because it said Ukraine was stealing the gas.
