Abu Musab al-Zarqawi Killed! BAGHDAD, Iraq - The U.S. military displayed images of the battered face of Iraq’s most feared terrorist Thursday and Iraqis celebrated with gunfire after American bombs killed the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq. It was a long-sought victory for U.S. forces, but officials cautioned of violence ahead — and a string of blasts proved that prediction almost immediately. Within minutes of the announcement of Abu Musab al- Zarqawi’s death, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki named three key security ministers — military and political breakthroughs in rapid succession that marked the big­gest potential turnaround in Iraq in months. The two events may give the United States and its Iraqi allies another brief chance to build momentum toward stability and away from violence. With al-Zar­­qawi out of the way and the new government in place, some Sunni Arab leaders may be emboldened to resume a dialogue they started last fall — exchanges sunk by al- Zarqawi’s al-Qaida in Iraq. If another effort is made, much will depend on the Iraqi government’s ability to live up to its promises to build a political system that includes all groups, including disaffected Sunnis. More than a dozen Sunni Arab insurgent groups are believed to be operating in Iraq, and a few use tactics just as ruthless as al- Zarqawi’s. “This popular front and national unity is our guarantee to fighting all challenges,” al-Maliki told a Baghdad news conference. But, he warned, “whenever there Hungary’s driving culture - if that is what you can call it - is not user-friendly. Some 1,200 people die on the roads here each year. For Magyar driving culture appears dominated by men whose macho-based self-esteem can only be fulfilled by roaring off from traffic lights, swerving in and out of lanes and braking at the very last moment. Unable to bear the sight of a car in front of them, they win bonus points in their deluded self-rankings if they do all this holding a mobile to their ears. Deaths, of course, are only the most obviously tragic part of the problem. Thousands more are injured, many permanently, on the roads every year. And even if you are one of the (many) careful Hungarian drivers, you may well become a victim of some bad driver swerving in front of you. All this has a cost. Thousands of police, court staff and medical workers are tied up with sorting out road accidents and their victims instead of fighting what might be termed „real” crime and sickness. In addition, the victims of road accidents include many in their 20s and 30s, an age in which state investment in terms of education is at its maximum, while the payback, in the form of taxes and, hopefully, „good citizenship” is only just beginning. Most precious painting of all time arrives in Hungary Budapest, June 1 (MTI) - Titian’s “Portrait of a Grey-Eyed Nobleman” arrived in Budapest on Tuesday, commercial TV channel RTL Klub reported on Wednesday evening. It is the most precious painting to be displayed in the country. The masterpiece, kept in Pitti Palace, Florence, will be exhib­ited from June 2 to July 16 in the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts, along with nine other 16th cen­tury Italian renaissance paintings belonging to the museum’s own collection. The exhibition is designed to demonstrate what breakthrough Titian made in portrait painting over 450 years ago. The museum insured the Titian for HUF 13 billion, or EUR 50 million, Zoltán Lévai of the communications depart­ment told RTL Klub. “The true value of the painting could only be measured by the market but the insurance cost appears to be a close estimate,” he said. A forint emlékérmék sorát 1948-ban az 1848-49. évi forradalom és szabadságharc centenáriumára kibocsátott érmék nyitották meg, majd 1968-tól vált rendszeressé az emlékérme kibocsátás. Az államalapítás 1000. évfordulója alkalmából pedig 2000 forintos emlékbankjegyet bocsátott ki a jegybank. A pénz mindenkor a kibocsátása korára jellemző kisplasztikái alkotás is egyben. Ez különösen érvényes az emlékérmékre, hiszen ezeknél nem a fizetőeszköz szerep, hanem a tematika, annak művészi megoldása, kidolgozása az elsődleges. Éppen ezért a magyar emlékér­méket neves éremművészek tervezik, a megvalósítandó éremképek pedig képzőművészekből és szakértőkből (érem-és szobrászművész, ötvös, művészettörténész, numizmatikus) álló zsűri által bírált pály­amunkák közül kerülnek kiválasztásra. A szakértői zsűri összetételé­nek kialakítására és munkájának koordinálására a jegybank a Képző- és Iparművészeti Lektorátust bízza meg. Az emlékérmék témaválasztásánál a Magyar Nemzeti Bank elsődleges szempontja, hogy olyan szellemi értékeknek, személyeknek, eseményeknek állítson emléket, amelyekre méltán büszke mindenki. Az évente megjelenő emlékérmék témáját és egyéb paramétereit a jegybank igazgatósága dönti el, a végleges érmeterveket pedig - a fent említett szakértői zsűri javaslatát is figyelembe véve - a jegybank elnöke választja ki. Az 1956. évi forradalom és szabadságharc 50. évfordulója kapcsán a Magyar Nemzeti Bank arany- és ezüst emlékérme, továbbá az 50 forintos forgalmi érme és az 500 forintos bankjegy emlék változatának kibocsátását tervezi. A nemesfém emlékérmék tervezése két fordulóban zajlott. Először nyilvános pályázat került meghirdetésre, amelyen az ország képző- és iparművészei, szobrászai vehettek részt önkéntes alapon, majd a beérkezett pályázatok alapján a zsűri három művészt kért fel további tervek készítésére. A kiválasztott három művész: Bartos István Péter, Kiss György és Rónay Attila, akik érmeterveiket a 100 000 forint névértékben tervezett arany, illetve az 5000 forintos ezüst emlékérmékre készítették el. BARTOS ISTVÁN PÉTER mindkét érmére két-két előoldalt és égy-egy hátoldalt tervezett. A mozgássérült tervezőművész nevéhez fűződik a jelenleg is forgalomban lévő forint érméink (1, 2, 5, 10,-20 és 50 forintos) névértékes oldalának elkészítése, de több emlékérmét is tervezett az elmúlt évek során.
