1785-ben további 1000 Rft lefizetése ellenében immáron örök jogon átadta Zalabéri Horváth Józsefnek.92

Ez a pénzfelvétellel egyező napon, a zalavári konventben tett birtokfelvallás véglegesen, de valójában szimbolikusan megpecsételte az eddigi eladósodási- birtokvesztési tendenciát. Zeke Miklós és vele a család eltűnt a Zala megyében birtokkal rendelkező nemesek sorából.

Summary

The Zeke family of Petőháza, as also their title of nobility indicates, didn’t belong to County Zala’s traditional squire-families. The Zeke family with a small estate, was descended from Csallóköz (interfluvial region along the river Danube), County Pozsony. A member of this family, János Zeke, son of György, Tamás Nádasdy’s fenman, married in 1553 Piroska Pető, the widow of Tamás Kovách of Szentmiklós. Piroska Pető was the last descendant of the Pető family of Petőháza, which died out on the male line. In the family’s history this marriage meant the first step of a long-lasting rise of financial conditions. György Zeke established the family’s branch of County Sopron. His descendants belonged to the office-holder nobility of County Sopron for generations and due to their learnedness, they occupied the notary position, one of the most important posts of the county administration and jurisdiction at the end of the 17th century and at the beginning of the 18th century [István (I) Zeke and his son István (II) Zeke, who was also sub-prefect of the county]. The gradual growth of the family’s importance was closely related to the formation and modification of the family- and relative-circle. István (I) Zeke’s marriage was a good example of this: he didn’t marry into a county small-holder family but into a local traditional family.
