a helyi fazekas ezeket a szimbólumokat nem a sigillatákról, hanem más tárgyakról másolta. 74 Az eddig ismert, alig száz terra sigillata chiara különös jelentőségét abban látjuk, hogy néhány — majdnem egyedi darabnak tekinthető — edényen, terrakotta szobrocskán kívül 75 a IV. sz. kerámiaimportja egyedül erre a csoportra korlátozódik. Az ún. észak-afrikai sigillaták behozatala azoknak a kapcsolatoknak intenzitását bizonyítja, amelyek még a későrómai időkben is öszszekötötték tartományunkat Itáliával és a Medtierraneum többi területével. Minthogy ez az interprovinciális kerámiafajta nagy területen terjedt el, ennélfogva Britanniától Dura Europosig számos lelőhelyen, időrendileg jól meghatározható leletegyüttesben tűnik fel, az ún. észak-afrikai sigillata olyan keltezőeszközzé változhat, amelynek segítségével esetleg még a 375, tehát az éremforgalom megszakadása utáni (IV. sz- végi—V. sz. elejei) időszak településrétegeit is pontosabban határozhatjuk meg. Nem becsülhető le annak jelentősége sem, hogy a terra sigillata chiara — elterjedési területének gócaiban — a helyi kerámia formaadását is befolyásolta, így e típusok is pontosabban keltezhetők, s egy adott határon belül a későrómai gazdasági kapcsolatok fokmérőivé válhatnak. Az inspiráció mértékét csak a további kutatások, elsősorban a későrómai telepkerámia vizsgálata során határozhatjuk meg. DÉNES ©ABLER: „TERRA SIGILLATA CHIARA" FOUND AT NAGYKANIZSA (Summary) At Nagykanizsa next to the Inkey sepulchral chapel excavations were carried out by L. Horváth. Here, in a pit belonging to a Late Roman villa (pit 36) fragments of so-called North-African sigillatae (red slip ware) were also found besides samian from Rheinzabern and Late-Roman burnished pottery. One of them (No. 1) is a plate form Hayes 48 A = Lamboglia C —41, made of light orange and slightly granulated clay. Its surface is orange red; its inside is covered by semi-lustrous slip. The Nos. 2—3, form Hayes 50 A/B = Lamboglia C— 40, thin walled dishes are also made of light orange clay. The coherent slip covers only the inside and the outher side of the rim. The terra sigillata chiara C types found at Nagykanizsa can be considered as an early ware in Pannónia; the so-called Nort-African sigillata appears everywhereexcept Sirmium — in the Danubian provinces in the middle and second half of the 3rd century 30 — 32 . This type of finds is uncommon in Pannónia just like in the Northern provinces 5-6 ; the majorty of the plain ware or vessels with applique-or stamped decoration are terra sigillata chiara D products. They can be dated to the second half of the 4th century and were distributed mainly in the southwestern part of the province^— 44 48—52, The products of the North-African (and perhaps other Mediterranean) workshops, just as the North-African lamps found in 74.
