As in the territory of county Zala no other targets existed than the oil-fields of the Hungarian-American Oil Industrial Ltd. (MAORT), (more precisely the oil-fields of Bázakerettye) there was only in one case (July .'!(), 1944) a strategic air-attack. Besides in the course of air-fights in the air space of the county, injured bombers were often compelled to unplanned bombing attacks. Numerous American, British, German and Hungarian airplanes crashed and perished, in many cases jointly with their crew. The events which took place in the air space of county Zala were organic parts of the aerial warfare of summer 1944.
