stele from the early imperial period. As it was used as threshold stone, only a few letters remained from the inscription. After a survey of the hitherto known Roman stones found in Zalavár, respectively Zalaapáti, the study takes stock of the Roman findspots in the territory of Zalavár. Actually we know from this region two early sepulchral urn cemeteries, the steles may origin out of any of them. Several of them were used again still in Late-Roman times, the others were built into the 11th century abbey on the Castle-Island. After the destruction of same the stones were transported to Zalaapáti, where they were built into the 18th century Benedictine church.
