ÁGNES SÓS REMARKS ON THE SIGNIFICANCE AND PROBLEMS OF THE EXCAVATIONS AT ZALAVÁR (Summary) In the present article I have made efforts to sum up the most important results of the excavations carried out at the well-known Zalavár— Mosaburg sites since 1946 (1946—1947, 1951—1954, 1961—1966, 1973—1975). First of all I laid special emphasize on the archaeological problems in the light of the historical events of the 9—11th centuries. Considering that I have already published our excavationsresults in German and in different Slavic languages except those of 1973—1975 (the results of the years 1963—1966 are partly published), I supposed it should be sufficient to give here only a bibliograhy of these publications. 1 There are however some remark sconsidering the results of the last three years. On the Northern part of the „Vársziget" („Castle-island") there are rescue excavations in progress (Fig. 1.). The uncovered remains of a settlement and of some fortifications of different periods and the unearthed graves of a cemetery refere to the importance of this find-place. The question concerning the 9th century „civitas" can not be regarded as solved. Based on the geographical conditions of the territory the iselands situated in the formerely moorland can be considered as parts of this „civitas". Excavations on a larger scale were carried out only on the „Récéskút-island" (1946—1947, 1961—1963), the main results of which have been published.
