It is with a deep sense of loss that your reporter writes this last article in a familiar format, which has been used for the last 30 or more years since I first began writing for Verhovay-William Penn. As editors changed, so changed editorial policies. Those of us who enjoyed writing our journalistic tidbits felt we were doing some good in publicizing our respective branches and the association, and altered our writing to fit the demands of each succeeding editor. Now comes an entirely new format, fewer issues, but the work will go on if the publicity of branch activities will reach the membership. Since the next issue will not be published until February, a short summary of future activities must be inserted with this final issue under the old format. Success to the new “William Penn”. THE LADIES’ AUXILIARY held its annual election of officers December 1st with the following results: President: Margaret Veszprémi; Vice-President: Mary Farkas; Secretary: Elvira László (Bette Rigó resigned the post); Treasurer: Julia Danko; Auditor: Jolán Lucas. The HUNGARIAN TREASURES COOK BOOK, in its fifth edition, is available for $1.55 by mail, or $1.25 direct purchase from any officer, member, or the district office. For mail orders send $1.55 to Mrs. Margaret Veszprémi, 2415 Stair St., Detroit 9, Michigan, or to Mrs. Elizabeth Rigo, 3920 Fort Street, Lincoln Park, Michigan. The annual outing of the Ladies’ 'Auxiliary was the most gratifying social of this fine group of women. Dinner in the Surrey Room of the Statler Hilton Hotel presented a gay group of women in their best finery, excellent cuisine, and a short walk to the theater to see the fine musical, “The Song of Music”. That memorable evening will be remembered vividly for a long time. SPORTS CLUB ACTIVITIES are rolling along smoothly with a Christmas party in the near future on Saturday, December 18th. Guests of honor at this members only party will include Branch 18 President and Director Stephen Danko, and his wife; Division Managers Steve Úsztok and Andrew Vince, District Manager Edward A. Darocy, District Agent Tibor Halo, and their wives. The Sport Club Mixed League is moving along well and there are but few absentees from this gay league. The APPRECIATION DINNER for our branch members who worked hard at the storm-ridden summer picnic of the branch in August was a very satisfying event. All the guests who attended again pledged their wholehearted support to join in future branch social activities, and to make them as successful as the summer picnic. We must do this more often,” was the unanimous decision of the group. So to “do this more often,” the branch will hold its “60th-80th ANNIVERSARY BANQUET AND DANCE,” on Saturday, April 30, 1966, at the new Hungarian Reformed Church in Allen Park. This big event will honor the founding of the William Penn Fraternal Association 80 years ago, and to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Branch 36, which now includes many other fine branches which merged to make Branch 18 the largest branch in the Association. These mergers through the years have proved that branches are more successful when united under the proper conditions. Their working groups have a better selection of able administrators to carry on fraternal, social and sports activities. DON’T FORGET to start lining up your teams for the 23d ANNUAL NATIONAL WILLIAM PENN BOWLING TOURNAMENT AND FELLOWSHIP DAYS to be held in Pittsburgh in 1966. Gather your bowlers together, sign up your new members to form teams. Your reporter is rather curious to know what “new rules and regulations'* will be made for the coming tournament. A phrase in the November 17th issue of the WILLIAM PENN caught my eyes: “There will be some changes in the rules and regulations as well as in the operation of the bowling tournament.” Details are promised in coming issues. I hope everyone will read these changes so that there will .be no misunderstandings later * * ELECTION OF OFFICERS of Branch 18 will be held Sunday, January 9th at 2 p. m., VFW Post #552, located at 1125 Fort Street, corner of Montie, Lincoln Park. The membership is requested to attend to elect satisfactory officers for the year 1966. Now to wish each and every one of you a very Happy Christmas, and may the New Year of 1966 bring you many blessings.
