BRANCH NEWS — Since this column is being written before the regular Branch 18 meeting to be held April 8th, only a tentative date can be set for the June outing in Scott’s Park, which is set for June 24th. After discussion at the meeting, more details will be available for the May issue. BOB-LO DAY, JULY 14th — This unusual cruise-picnic-Children’s Day- Family Outing is a genuine innovation in William Penn family life in Detroit. Instead of the ordinary picnic held at hot, dry, sometimes poorly kept picnic grounds, Bob-Lo Island in Canada is a real treat with its carefully cultivated, yet almost pristine natural setting, planned for a variety of pleasures for both young and old, and in-between age groups. The “SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE,” which is our unofficial motto in Branch 18, is happily co-ordinated at Bob-Lo Island and on the; cruise boat. Children especially love the trip and the island; teen-agers enjoy all the dancing their young hearts desire; plenty of shade trees, tables and chairs under God’s sunny skies relax the most tense individual. DON’T FORGET — BOB-LO ISLAND FAMILY OUTING — July 14, Saturday. LADIES’ AUXILIARY:— The last recipe has been collected, typed and in the hands of the publisher, and only proof-reading left to finish. It is amazing that a group of women, most of them housewives, could enfer into such a project. The entire Ladies’ Auxiliary Branch 18 Cook- Book has been the sole duty of these women, including the business ends. Even the publisher is a woman, Mrs. Ernest Palos, publisher of the SOUTHWEST JOURNAL! For those of you who have been inquiring about the cost of the Branch 18 Auxiliary Cook-Book, please be advised that it will be $1.25 per copy, F.O.B. Detroit, that is an additional 25<1 will be charged for postage and handling to out of state areas. Somogyi, Treasurer John Sabo, Controller We are pleased to announce that 1,000 copies have been ordered by the Junior Altar Society of Holy Cross Church in Detroit, and these ladies are anxiously awaiting the first 500 copies “hot off the press.” Some of these Altar Society Ladies (the most active in fact!) are members of our Lades’ Auxiliary. Thank; you, Ladies!-Letters are pouring in from over all the country requesting reservations for a copy of the FIRST WILLIAM PENN LADIES’ AUXILIARY COO K-BOOK, for which we thank our grand, fraternal, William Penn membership. The reason the price of the cookbook was not quoted before is because the price was not set until after the deadline for the March issue. The book has a bright yellow, hard cover in Dura-Glo finish (acceptable for the hard use to which this book will be subjected) with blue lettering (the official William Penn colons), and will include the new official emblem on its front cover. A fraternal greeting from President Julius Macker of the Association is a credit to the hardworking women of Branch 18, and we take this opportunity to thank Mr. Macker! The Home Office is inserting a full page ad on the inside back cover, which will be the only advertising in our Cook-Book. After all, our business is recipes! The Fashion Show-Card Party of the Auxiliary, to be held Thursday evening 7:30 at Holy Cross Church Marble Auditorium, on May 17th, has a blue and gold color scheme — tickets printed in yellow with blue lettering, prizes wrapped in blue and gold, and we have called our main event the “SUMMER WHIRL” FASHION SHOW AND CARD PARTY. Chairman Mrs. Stephen (Julia) Danko, informed the Auxiliary of the surprise, which will be used for prizes — real summery surprises! The committees are hard at work buying prizes, planning refresh, ments, and the “SUMMER WHIRL” Fashion Show to be given by Little Mary’s Dress Shop. Some of our branch women will be models, along with professional models from the dress shop. Please buy your tickets early. They are going fast and we want to be sure all of you will have a place at our exciting event. SPORTS CLUB:— All bowling information will be given in May issue. (Space is short, you see.) JUNIOR CLUB:— Likewise. The bowling season will end in a few weeks, and all final results of both Adult and Junior bowlers will be available for May issue. Keep in contact for all branch activities. Call the District Office, the Ladies’ Auxiliary President, or this writer, for any and all information) regarding the varied social, fraternal, sports and charitable activities of Branch 18 in Detroit.
