CHARLES PAPP On June 12, 1911 Charles Papp and Barbara Magyar were united in holy wedlock by Father Coloman Kovats in St. Stephen King Hungarian Ca­tholic Church, McKeesport, Penn­sylvania. Fifty years later, Branch 34, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania members Mr. and Mrs. Charles Papp, living in the Glenwood section of Pitts­burgh, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and were honored by their relatives and friends. They are both from the former county of Abauj-Torna, Hungary, and immigrated to Pittsburgh, he in 1907 and she in 1909. Now retired after 41 years of service with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in its Glenwood shops, Mr. Papp was a boiler-maker and electric welder. The Papps had eight children of whom five are living: - Catherine, Emma, Charles, Joseph and Barbara. There are thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Congratulations and best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Papp. MR. AND MRS. ANDREW T. THOMAS The great date for Mr. and Mrs. Andrew T. Thomas, members of Branch 44, Akron, Ohio, was June 3, 1961 when this happy couple reached their 50th year of wedded life. They were feted at the home of their only child, Andrew, Jr., and the three grandchildren and many friends joined in making the occa­sion a very happy one for the el­derly couple. Both Mr. and Mrs. Thomas came from Hungary in 1907, he from Borszörcsök, county of Veszprém, and she from Bikács, county of Tol­na. They became acquainted and The William Penn Fraternal As­sociation is celebrating its 75th An­niversary this year. This society, the largest Hungarian fraternal organi­zation in the world, has a member­ship of nearly 90,000, and there are 8,000 William Penn members in the State of Michigan with approximate-! ly 6,500 in the Detroit area. Branch 18, in conjunction with Branch 56, both located in Detroit, will commemorate the William Pehn’s 75th Anniversary with a ban­quet and dance on Saturday 6 p.m., September 23, 1961, at the V.F.W. Hall, 1125 Fort Street, corner Mon­tie Road, Lincoln Park, Michigan. Admission is $2.50 a person and re­married in Akron, Ohio. After 43 years service Mr. Tho­mas is retired from the B. F. Good­rich Company, and Mrs. Thomas is also retired having been chef at the Akron Hospital. Mr. Thomas was re­cording secretary at Branch 44 for 13 years. To you, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas, our congratulations and best wishes. MR. AND MRS. GEORGE MGDOCK Mr. and Mrs. George Modock, well-known members of Branch 59, Windber, Pennsylvania, marked their golden wedding May 1 and held a family celebration a few days later ón May 6. The couple attended an anniversary Mass celebrated by Father Godfrey Kugler in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A family dinner followed in the home of a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Sasko. Mr. Modock came to America in 1909. On May 1, 1911 he married Elizabeth Bubenko. Both natives of Hungary, the couple has resided in Windber for the past 40 years. The Modocks have two daughters, Helen (Mrs. William Sasko) and Julia (Mrs. Michael Kondás), both living in the area of Windber and Scalp Level. Mr. Modock was for many years branch officer, secured many new members, received awards for his branch and association accomplish­ments, and otherwise pursued an active course for the benefit of our society. Much of the credit is due to a pro­gressive and farsighted official group, working together in complete harmony and understanding. Seven of the branch officials are second generation members, leaving four of our veteran officers to guide and discipline with their seasoned wis­dom. Please note activities in the coming months: LADIES’ AUXILIARY: — The Ladies’ Auxiliary of Branch 18 will hold a card party on Sunday, Sep­tember 3, at 3:00 p.m. in the former Verhovay Home, 8005 W. Jefferson Avenue. Table and door prizes, with Hungarian pastries and coffee, will highlight the afternoon. Bring your husbands, Ladies — there will be separate tables for them. A unique get-together was held in the home of Mrs. Priscilla Kon­dor on Thursday, July 27th. An off­­day from business, the Ladies’ Auxiliary members played cards, visited and were served delicious pastries and coffee. Each woman will have her turn to entertain at these get-acquainted parties. The regional meeting of the Auxiliary of Branches 500 and 18 will be held Saturday evening, Au­gust 19, at 7:00 p.m., in the district office, 3920 Fort Street, Lincoln Park. Again, the husbands are in­vited for the after-meeting refresh­ment and visiting hour. Our Branch 18 Ladies’ Auxiliary members take turns, in alphabetical order, to bake cakes and entertain after the business meetings. Mrs. Elizabeth Sampson, Mrs. Rose Tep­­fenhart, Mrs. Margaret Veszprémi and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ste­phen Úsztok, and Mrs. Anna Trellai will be hostesses for the August 19 The regular monthly meeting was held Thursday, July 13. Date for the 45th Anniversary Dinner-Dance was set for Saturday, October 21, 1961. Meetings hereafter will be held the second Thursday of every month at 7:30 at the branch home. Members are urged to register with the steward for our special event club. It was good to see so many people enjoying the delicious chicken dinner held July 29 at the branch home. Friends and relatives were glad to visit again with Ed Mattie va­cationing here. Ed now lives in the Golden State. BOWLING NEWS: — Winners of the trophies and awards were an­nounced at the annual banquet held June 17.
