Flowers were acknowledged from the American United Life Insurance Company and from Homer McCarthy, Ailing & Cory Paper Company. Now came the time to introduce the KING and the QUEEN of the 75th Anniversary Banquet and Dance. They were L. Louis Horvath, well-known columnist of Branch 87, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Helen Beres, Branch 348, Mona, West Virginia. They made a handsome and charming couple and were quite delighted and grateful when President Macker presented to them, in the name of the Board of Direc— William Penn Considering all the hubbub and excitement as the tournament was about to begin, President Julius Macker did all right when he hurled the first ball down the lane with the result that seven pins “bit the dust.” Anxiously but happily looking on are, left to right: Auditing Committee Chairman Gaspar Papp, Director John P. Balia, Fraternal Affairs Administrator Frank J. Cher, Treasurer Julius E. Somogyi, Director Stephen Danko, (the President), Director Joseph Kormondy, Field Manager Elmer Charles, Director Albert B. Ibos, Board Chairman and First Vice President Louis L. Varga, Secretary Albert J. Stelkovics. ROLLING THE FIRST BALL tors and the Membership, beautiful wrist watches which were later engraved KING - QUEEN — WM. PENN 75TH ANN. — with initials. At almost the very end of the program Frank Koval, one of the official score-keepers at the tournament, substituting for the absent Mr. Diliinger, announced the names and scores of some of the bowling winners. Trophies were on display in the Allegheny Room. Mr. Varga then asked the Rev. László Borsay, rector of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Springdale, to offer the benediction. With the singing of the Hungarian National Anthem, led by Gypsy Countess Julia, came the conclusion of the banquet program. Dancing followed until the early hours of the morning. Both American and Hungarian numbers, fast and slow music, were played to satisfy every age and every mood, and Gypsy Countess Julia sang song after song to the delight and joy of her interested spectators and listeners. At this point we wish to acknowledge with many thanks the role of the Branch 34, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ladies’ Auxiliary. These women and girls, under the leadership of Julia K. Cher, member of the national body of the William Penn Ladies’ Auxiliary, acted as hostesses during the Diamond Anniversary Banquet-Dance. They were Mrs. Michael Kara, Mrs. Margaret Kisty, the Misses Helen Lepedő, Barbara Catlos, Elaine Stefan and Edith Klein. CONCLUSION The 18th Annual National William Penn Bowling Tournament is over for another year but our 75th Anniversary remains with us for the rest of 1961. Let us be grateful that we have the heritage of this society, once an acorn now an oak, from our 13 founders, and let us, individually and together, help foster the bright future which lies ahead for our beloved William Penn Fraternal Association.
