February 19, 1938 PAGE 12 William Penn News From Northwestern Ohio BRANCH 27-V TOLEDO, OHIO By Stephen J. Ivancso | ___ a With February here, it seems as though winter is just starting, and with the changeable weather conies the long list of cold and ache-all-over victims. Joseph Rasi, our old-timer of Branch 27-V is under his doctor’s care, and, at this writing, is holding his own. Mrs. Louis Szabó from Burr Street spent several painful weeks at St. Charles Hospital. She had an accident, or more precisely, a car, as she was walking, bumped her into Recent Pictures From Branch 18-V Santa Claus giving out presents donated by Home Office and Branch 48-V (New York City) Picking of the three winners of door prizes given by Home Office. Cards held by Field Supervisor Joseph Toma and winners picked by Santa Claus (District Manager John Hegedűs). Officers of Branch 48-V. Tn foreground, left to right: Paul Korniczky, vice president; Stephen Sipos, vice president; Mrs. Mary Suchala.. committee chairwoman^ Mrs. Esther Reich, committee chairwoman; Mrs. Mary Huthanscl, Christmas party chairwoman; John Május, District Manager; Mrs. Joseph Toma; Joseph Toma, Field Supervisor. Standing behind Mrs, Huthansel is Mrs. Rose Fischer, recording secretary. Unfortunately because of a business commitment, Albert B. Ibos. president, was not present until later in the day. 1 another ear. She'll be off her feet fca- a long time. Joe Zabrosky is home recuperating after a long month’s-stay at St. Charles. He lost 23 pounds and looks like a welterweight now. Brother John is home after an emergency appendectomy at St. Vincent’s. He says he might make it for the tournament in Philadelphia. We hope so! Sharrcn Lajti, wife of Paul Lajti, Jr., is home after a week end at Mercy Hospital. Gosh, the month of January looks like a “hospital” month for the members of Branch 27-V. The bravest little hospital member among all cf these patients was little Nicholas Pásztor, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Pbsztor of Valentine St. Little Nicky, after being operated on in the morning, came home, and to the surprise of his well-wishers, welcomed everybody at the dcor of his home instead of at the hospital. Also at St. Vincent’s is little Erma Köleszar. We wish each of our sick members speedy recovery. I received a very nice letter from one of our former Toledoans, Mrs. Stephen Pederi of Phcenix, Arizona. She tells me it’s pleasantly warm there. That’s more than we can say for here. Nice — If You Can Do It Department: Rev. Martin Hemady, assistant pastor at St. Stephen’s, spent á week in North Carolina visiting friends. Rev. Alexander Pinter, pastor of St. Stephen’s is spending a few weeks down Florida. I received a card from- Mr .and Mrs. William Yishi telling me that their winter coats came in handy on their recent vacation in Florida. I wonder if this is true in Phoenix where the Belegrins, Ernie and Sue, are spending the month. The Holy Name Societies of Holy Cross Church of Detroit and St. Stephen’s had a friendly bowling match. The Detroiters won by a few pins — 73 to be exact. It was nice to see a few William Penn Branch 36-V shirts (who said that Detroit has no bowlers?). Trophies were won by William Penn members from Toledo Mr. and Mrs. William A. Smith — Helen for high single game, Bill for high 3 game total — and Rose Bodnar and Mai'y Ivancso (who’s taking over the bowling in the family) tied to take trophies for three game tc/tals. Robert (the barber) Kovács shot a 235 game which was second high for the tournament, while his wife Ida also ■showed up as yours truly. No comment on the scores! The William Penn Mixed league produced a good serre the last night out. James Viseher came through with a 237 game that is tied with Ernie Bel egri n for high single game of the season. Hazel and Jim’s son, Gary, came in for some good news in Canada. Gary was one of six boys chosen from the states for the swimming meet and came home with the relay championship. Grandpa Horvath from Seward, Pennsylvania is mighty proud of Gary. Some day this boy is going to be a gold medal winner in the Olympics. We are proud to have the family and Gary as William Penn members. Congratulations! Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ujvagi celebrated tbsur first wedding annivei'sary here in America — by this I mean — this is thenfirst year in America. They have 3 fine sons and a pretty daughter. They had a delicious dinner at thennew home ami nany friends came to ■share their happiness.
