January 15, 1958 William Penn ß3®a«30® «005« CHATTERBOX Branch 129-V Columbus, Ohio jg .Dear readers: I must apologize for the Chatterbox being absent from last month’s issue of the William Penn. My job as a city carrier for the Columbus Post Office kept me quite busy this past month. I just didn't have the time to give the column what it deserves. I hope yon will forgive me and let this contribution'' make up far the two Although 1 am late with it, I would like tc wish each and every one of you the Season’s best Greetings and that the New Year will hold much happiness-for you. ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR 1958 At our regular monthly meeting in December we had the election of officers for the year 1958. The following are those elected to office: President, George Tokár; Vice President, Dave. George; Secretary: Evelyn Boucher; Treasurer, William Franklin; Auditors, Bonnie Tokár Charlie Boso. Those elected to the Board of Directors are as follows: Jim Boucher, Kenny Bolar, Paul Taylor and Joe Zuellivich; Alternate, James Marlow. I am sure everyone wishes them the best of luck and success in their new office. Speaking as one of those whom you have elected, and I am sure speaking for the whole group, we will do our best to fulfil]. the faith and trust you have placed in us. We wish to thank the ladies who prepared the refreshments and served them after the meeting this month. “Girls," they surely hit the spot after that long set-to we had upstairs. MOTOR CITY MEMBERS PLEASE NOTE: “Dear Ferret,” I have been following your column with much interest and reading of your efforts to expand your bowling activities. I must say I sympathize with you. It seems you are bucking strong resistance from CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY Mrs. Rose Varga, who was in charge of the Christmas Party for the children, and the mothers who helped her, should be given a big- vote of thanks. The program was perfect. This year over 100 children were present at the party, so you can see it was quite crowded at the home. Two movies were shown which the children enjoyed very much. In the talent department were the King Sisters and the Boucher Sisters. They did their intriguing routines and were received with great applause. Johnny some of the members who do not wish to increase the activities and membership of your branch there. Maybe if someone from the outside could take a hand, they might listen. Well here I go: Friends of Branch 36-V. Your “Ferret” has the right idea and I know that If you stop to think about it you will see it too. I know of no better way to show you than to tell you about our branch here ir. Columbus, Ohio. First, I should like to say that, we now have bowling in Columbus, eight men’s team and two women’s teams, all of them sponsored by our branch. We have for the last three National Bowling- Tournaments and Fellowship Days sent from 16 to 20 teams to the tournament, all of them sponsored by our branch. Now you may say that this has cost us money, and I will agree with yon that it has, but at the same time we have increased our membership to such proportion that our home is no longer adequate for our needs. We are now seeking- to build a new home or remodel the present one to take care of our needs and give us room to continue to grow and expand. T can safely say that our growth has been brought about largely by the increased howling activities of our branch. Bowling- has given us many new members who have the welfare of our branch at heart. They have taken a very active part in our meetings and also the affairs sponsored by the branch. Lou Tokár, our District Manager, has played a big- part in the overall increase of our membership. George Tokár, our branch president and Dave George, our past president also have played an important part in the growth of Br. 129-V. I can truthfully say that I am proud to be a member of Branch 129-V. Members of Branch 36-V, I hope you will receive this message in the spirit intended. Remember to look to the interest of your branch as a whole. “Ferret,” keep up the good - work, and I am sure you will win in the end. ' ^ Horvath recited a poem for the group. Carol Deri sang a Christmas carol with animation. We would like to find out ,vho the little girl was whom Pete Coachman brought to the party. She did a fine job singing “Dark Town Strutters Fall.” Refreshments were served, which included ice cream and cake. It was at this point that Old Saint Nick made his appearance, giving out candy and favors to the children. After this everyone gathered around the pi "no and sang Christmas carols. The children were having such a grand time that they were reluctant to leave, but due to the crowded conditions the mothers thought it best for the party to break up at 4 P.M. as scheduled. The dooi- prizes were won by Kristi Mezaros (age 1%), David Rogers (age 9) and Sandra Boucher (age 11). We wish to thank the Home Office at this time for the candy, gifts end door prizes which helped make this party a success.
