He then congratulated the branch on its 50 year history, paid tribute to the two living charter members, and eulogized Director Lang and his family for their tireless devotion to Branch and Association. Further, the National Auditor expressed his extreme satisfaction at the “spirit of oneness” which followed the Verhovay-Rakoczi merger, concluding his words wth the happy thought that the youth of William Penn has awakened to its responsibilities as the heirs of this largest of Hungarian American societies. One of the many interested listeners as Mr. Sabo spoke was his wife who came with her husband to this great occasion in Branch 98-V history. I At this point Stephen Lang, Jr., president of the 98-V Organizing Committee, expressed thanks to the advertisers in the program book, which was prepared largely through the efforts of Charles Simon, Nicholas Szolga and Stephen Lang, Jr. and was passed out to every guest, and thanked the banquet workers, Mrs. ^ Gal, Mrs. Huyter, Mrs. Czug, Mrs. Fodi and Mrs. Szanto, preparers of the delicious food, and Julia Gal, Helen Lippey, Mary Horvath, Rose Nagy, Margaret Fabian, Irene Lippert, Mary Szabó and Theresa Gerencsér, who so efficiently served at the banquet tables, and all others who assisted in making the jubilee event most successful. Before concluding this story, it is but proper to name the incumbent officers of Branch 98-V, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania: Charles Simon, president; Bela Richter, vice president; Stephen Lang, Jr., treasurer; Simon Freund, recorder-controller; Julius Demko, auditor. In the Women’s Division of Branch 98-V the officers are: Mrs. Julius Demko, president; Mrs. Alexander Sule, vice president; Mrs. Eugene Kiss, secretary; Mrs. Simon Freund, recorder; Mrs. Louis Domotor, controller. After the benediction by Rev. John Ormay, Dr. Stiegler, voicing the high honors paid Hungarians on the recent Ko-ssuth stamp issue, asked the audience to end the formal program with the singing of the Kossuth song. Let us all give thanks for what we have: our health, our family, our friends, our hopes, and our prayers. There is so much to be thankful for and, after you’ve read this, spend just one moment to think of all you have to be thankful for. IRON CURTAIN STORY CHIDES CONSCIENCE BUDAPEST (AP) — This is the latest one going around behind the Iron Curtain. In Hungary they tell it about Rumania. Antonescu was a faithful Communist party member. But he also enjoyed the lighter things in life. One day he went into a bar and ordered a double rum. Just as he was about to lift it to his lips, he heard a thunderous voice: “Antonescu,” it said. “The party frowns on alcoholism! Desist!” Antonescu put down his glas9 without drinking a drop, paid and walked out. At the door he saw a pretty girL He smiled. She smiled. He was about to ask where she was going, when he heard the voice again: “Antonescu! You are a married man! The party watches over the sanctity of the family! Desist!” Antonescu was annoyed this time, and answered back; “Who are you, anyhow, and why do you take such an interest in my personal affairs?” “I,” said the voice, “am your conscience.” “And whei-e were you,” replied Antonescu, “on the day I joined the party?” “A LINE FROM L.A.” by Ernest F.
