Degyansky, 16 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Degyansky of 1015 Howard Avenue, Altoona, Pennsylvania, recently was named boy-of-the-month for October by the Altoona Optimist Club at its weekly meeting in the Penn-Alto Hotel. The young man’s father is local manager of Branch 245-V, William Penn Fraternal Association. Milan’s activities and achievements are many, to mention some of them: A junior in Altoona High School, he is an above average student, belongs to the Key Club, sells programs at the football games, is secretary of his English class, manages the baseball team, and last ycai at the" school*« science fair received an honorable mention award for his project. During his years at Keith Junior High School, Milan was president of the Student Council, a member of the P. T. A. executive committee, winner of the D. A. R. history award in eighth grade and the Women’s Club Citizenship award in ninth grade, served on the school’s newspaper, acted as home-room president in the eighth grade and was on the Corridor patrol in the ninth grade, and won three “K” pins and participated all three years in the Keith Varieties. Even outside the realm of school Milan has a variety of associations and activities, including membership at the Fairview Methodist Church and the church’s MYF, and activity in Explorer Post 9, sponsored by that church, where he has obtained the rank of Life Scout and serves as treasurer. In connection with Scouting, he belongs to Wopsononock Lodge 347, Order of the Arrow, and is editor of the lodge paper. He is also a member of the lodge executive committee. His interests continues in such things as the hobby of collecting stamps, pencils and matchbook covers, while fishing and baseball add to his pleasures. And as many a successful man was in his youth a newspaper boy, so is this young man who carries the Altoona Mirror. Milan plans to continue his education at Pennsylvania State University where he hopes to study some field of engineering. If Milan E. Degyansky continues his enthusiasm along so many lines as noted here, he might well become a future nian-of-the-year! _____----------------UNFIMILIAR “Don’t swing to the Left or Right," lecturer advises America,“the safest place is the middle of the road.” The speaker must be unfamiliar with our automobile statistics. — Dallas News.
