TRANSFERRED To Branch 466-V, Home Office, Pittsburgh, Pa., as of 1 September 1958, whose manager is: FRANK J. CHER 436 Fourth Ave. Pittsburgh 19, Pa. This being the initial column from Branch 249-V, Dayton, Ohio I believe a synopsis is in order. Branch 249-V became revitalized as a result of Dayton having been chosen the site of the 1957 National Bowling Tournament and Fellowship Days. Then, as evidenced in a previous issue of the William Penn Journal, the official duties of Branch 249-V were handed down to the younger generation. Officers elected at the January meeting are as follows: Al. Kertesz, President; Mike Sopronyi, Vice President; Andrew Hankoczky, Secretary-Treasurer; Alex Tarkany, Jr., Auditor. Along with the revitalization of Branch 249-V, new interest was also inflamed through the conception of our local William Penn Social Club, whose officers are: Louis Taylor, Jr., President; Frank Demus, Vice President; Mrs. Louis Taylor, Secretary; Al Kertesz, Treasurer. Activated September 1957, great strides have consistently been accomplished as a result of a close oneness of our younger element. This Social Club, with the help of our able branch, is recognized as Dayton’s most progressive sports club, packed with an abundance of enthusiasm. In attendance at the 1958 Tournament at Philadelphia and bowling under our colors of red and blue were: George Sopronyi, Jr., Branch Manager; Mike Sopronyi, Louis Taylor, Frank Murin, Lou Belme, Val Kasko and Al Kertesz. Also present were the wives: Lee Sopronyi, Esther Sopronyi, Ann Taylor, Pinkie Murin and Anne Kertesz. Val Kasko chose the tournament site to present Janet Gerdiman with a lovely diamond engagement ring, a day long to be remembered in the hearts of this nice young couple. During the short span of one year, our William Penn Social Club has undertaken such successful money-making projects as making and selling Hungarian kolbász, sponsored two dances, a fish fry, and our first annual Hungarian picnic held August 10. This without a doubt was one of the largest and most successful outings held in Dayton for some years. In addition to the 16 active members who carried the burden rf the picnic tasks, a vote of thar ks is also extended to Director Lev's Vassy, who was so happy about the successful turnout he consented to lend his assistance also. Many thanks to all who helped during our various affairs and to the many hundreds of people who honored us with their presence. Only with ithe help of these enthusiastic supporters can our young organization move ahead. Yes, the William Penn Social Club and Branch 249-V have been revitalized and, in so doing, have created a feeling of true fraternalism within the younger generation, the future leaders of our great William Penn Fraternal Association.
