OUTSTANDING BOWLING — SOCIAL FESTIVAL May 21, 1958 William Penn PAGE 5 McKeesport branch 226-v demonstrates SOLIDARITY OF FRATERNALISM Above, in montage, are scenes from the Sunday, April 27, 1958, gathering of more than 600 members of Branch 226-V, McKeesport, Pennsylvania, at a dinner-dance held in the Vogue Terrace, one of the top night clubs in Western Pennsylvania. The event was sponsored for the pleasure of all Branch 226-V members and to cite certain veteran members. Not even the all-day hard chilly rain could mar the successful attendance at this affair which proved to be one of the finest, if not the finest, ever held by this well-known branch. Top left, National President Coloman Revesz addresses the huge audience, while seated, left to right, are Councilman Thomas J. Heatherington of McKeesport, Director Julius J. Lenart, President of Branch 226-V, Mrs. Lenart, and Mrs. John Sabo, wife of the National Auditor; center, Miss Helen Stipkovits, McKeesport- Pittsburgh songstress; top right, National Auditor John Sabo, veteran member of Branch 226-V, left, receives branch gift from Mr. Lenart; bottom left, standing left to right, Moses Balogh (behind him in obscure view is Mr. Lenart), George Viszokay, Louis Novak, Sr., (Mr. Sabo seen in background), citation awardees, Director Gabriel Czernai, citation awardees Menyhért Fejes and Ignatius Kotroczo, and seated, left to right, Mrs. Thomas J. Heatherington, Councilman Heatherington, Mrs. Lenart, Mrs. Sabo, National President Revesz; bottom right, National Auditor Sabo at the microphone, and seated, left to right, Councilman Heatherington, Branch President Lenart, Mrs. Lenart, Mrs. Sabo. We are so very much pleased with this composite picture that, departing from the usual credit line, we should like to do more by mentioning that the picture was taken by the STANLEY STUDIO, professional photographers, 631 Braddock Avenue, Braddock', Pa. Owner is Joseph J. Such, life-time member of Branch 226-V, whose father has for years been active in branch and Hungarian affairs in McKeesport.- The program was opened with a welcome address by Director Julius J. Lenart, President of Branch 226-V, who in part said: “As you know, we have come together this evening to honor several veteran, members of Branch 226-V who have worked tirelessly and diligently to make our William Penn Fraternal Association the great organization it is today. We stand as the strongest of all fraternal associations in the country, and it is men such as these who have unselfishly given of their time and energy who have made it so. “... I wish to turn the program over to one who, I know, needs no formal introduction to the people of McKeesport. He is a native son of McKeesport, brought up and educated in our city. He has always been active with the Verhovay and now the William Penn, and he holds the position of National Auditor which he has held for the past sixteen years. It gives me great pleasure to turn over the program to my very good friend, John Sabo, who will be our toastmaster for the evening. MR. SABO.” At this point Mr. Lenart, in behalf of Branch 226-V, presented the just introduced toastmaster with a beautiful Coronet barometer, gift of the Branch to John Sabo, member of Branch 226-V and one of the founders of Branch 395 which later merged with 226-V, a man1 whose multiple branch activities and positions led him up the ladder to the high rung of National Auditor and whose Association labors merited for him the “Acknowledged Member” distinction. Mr. Sabo was deeply grateful. Next, the lilting voice of Miss Helen Stipkovits, area vocalist, accompanied at the piano by Miss Ethel Halas, brought forth the National Anthem as the audience stood in reverent silence. Dinner was preceded with the saying of grace by the Rev. Raymond S. Novak, pastor of King St. Stephen’s Magyar Roman Catholiic Church, McKeesport. At the conclusion of the dinner, Mr. Sabo employed his prerogative as toastmaster to speak. Reiterating his many thanks for the nice branch gift which, incidentally? graces the Wall of his office for easy weather reading, he expressed his delight at such a large attendance which the rain and the wind and the cold could not stop. He related how he was initiated into the Verhovay by Branch 226 pillars Moses Balogh (one of the awardees) and the late Geza Pavuk, of his happy recollection as one of the charter members of Branch 395 and its first president, his election to the office of National Auditor at the 1943 Convention, and his debt of gratitude to National President Revesz who, as Mr. Sabo’s predecessor, taught him well the serious responsibilities of the National Auditor’s office. Then, in elegant style, Mr. Sabo concluded: “Next to religion comes fraternalism, and I ask that each and every one of you support the branch programs, for the branches are the trunk lines of our Association.” Next speaker was Councilman Thomas J. Heatherington of the City of McKeesport 'and Chairman of the Local Democratic Party. Mr. Heatherington, substituting for Europe-vacationing Mayor Andrew J. Jakomas, extended official greetings. He told of his many years pleasant relationship with the Hungarians of McKeesport. Now again were heard the voice of Miss Stipkovits and the piano playing of Miss HALAS, a pair of musical ladies who blend together in dulcet harmony. Following this number the toastmaster called upon National President Revesz for an address. The head of our Association congratulated Branch 226-V on its beautiful show of fraternalism and wished the revitalized branch, which was the first of the large branches to carry out the me»'ger-of-branches program as .directed by the new William Penn, itself the merger of the Rákóczi and the Verhovay, best wishes for a prosperous future. He recalled an earlier event of Branch 226-V some twenty years ago and read its account, pointing out the continual social and fraternal activities of the McKeesport branch. Stressing the value and importance of branch life, the National President complimented the Field Program which has done much for the benefit and prestige of branch and Association. He expressed his gratitude for the many greetings and felicitations received on his twenty-five years with the Verhovay and the William Penn. Finally, in recounting the past and present tragedies of his ancestral Hungary, Mr. Revesz melodramatically ended his speech with the stirring Hungarian National Credo: I believe in one God ... I believe in the unity of my country ... I believe in one eternal divine justice ... I believe in the resurrection of Hungary .. . For a third and again welcome time Miss Stipkovits sang and Miss Halas played the piano. Now came the special feature of the program, the presentation of the Illustrious Citations and Gold Emblems to the following, some formerly with other branches (noted in parentheses) which later merged with Branch 226-V: .. .LOUIS NOVAK, Sr. (Branch 30- V), at one time Vice President of the Verhovay Aid Association ... presentation by Director Julius J.
