PAGE 14 March 20, 1957. William Penn MARRIED The 50th weddding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. George Ferencz, on January 27, 1057, was observed first by attendance at Mass in the Holy Trinity Church of Farrell, Pennsylvania, followed by blessing of the marital union by Father Denis Szocs, pastor. The couple’s children, four daughters and two sons, three sons-in-law and a daughter-in-law, nine grandchildren, and friends and well-wishers were present at the religious ceremonies. Later a dinner was served at the Shenango Inn to honor the golden wedding celebrants. George Ferencz and Julia Berbics were married in Bashalom, Szabolcs county, Hungary, January 27, 1907. That same year the husband left his native land for The United States, arriving in McKeesport, Pennsyl-50 YEARS vania in May. For a short time he worked in the local steel mill, but the razing of a section of the mill left Ferencz and many others out of work. He next went to Portage, Pennsylvania to work in a coal mine. In January 1910 Mrs. Ferencz reached America. Shortly thereafter the couple moved to Windber, Pennsylvania. In 1929 they moved to Farrell, Pennsylvania, in which city they are still living at 939 Emerson Avenue. In Fan-ell Mr. Ferencz worked for the Sharon Steel Company. The Ferencz’s had twelve children six of whom are living. Mr. and Mrs. Ferencz have been affiliated with our Association for the past twenty-five years. They are members of Branch 26-V, Farrell, Pennsylvania. Our congratulations and best wishes to them. BRANCH 15-V — CHICAGO, ILL. — SENTINEL By: Ernest C. Taylor, Dist. Mgr. Last month in this article I advised the members who knew Ken and Marge Long that the couple would be blessed with a little Long sometime in March. In todays’ mail I received the announcement that this little Long had arrived, but Marge missed her date as it was born on February 21st, at 4:02 P.M., weighing 6 lbs. 7 Ms oz. He has been named Kenneth Lee Long, Jr. Congratulations to Ken and Marge. I hear that the vice president of Branch 15-V is getting to be an old man since he recently became a great uncle. One of his nephews, Paul Mate, and his wife, were blessed with a little Mate whom they have named John Stephen. This little Mate arrived on February 20th, at 7:48 A.M. Paul is the son of John and Rose Schybai. We know that John is the hard working bartender at all our affairs, who usually opens and closes the bar. I also hear by the grapevine that John’s other son, Steve, will become a papa sometime in September. Congratulations to the Mate Family. Andy, you may now start to feel old. I hear too that you are going to be a father-in-law. Just wait till you become a grandfather. Frank and Shirley Balogh are still waiting, at this writing, after several false alarms; Betty and Andy Barna are also still waiting around for the Hurry-Up call. In the month of February, Branch 15-V lost several of its members. Julius Nemeth died suddenly from a heart attack. He leaves behind his wife Irene. We lost also Mrs. Joseph Szepi who leaves behind her husband Joseph, son Louis and his family, and daughter Mrs. Paul Igyarto of Maywood, Illinois and her family. We lost Joseph Salay. The body was shipped to Wisconsin for burial. We lost Mrs. Patzko this last month. The entire branch gives condolences to the bereaved families. Joseph Höllerbach, Sr. has recovered so well that he and his wife are now on vacation in Florida. Charles Stuparits is also well on the road to recovery. He has begun to visit his various teams at the bowling alleys. Hurry, Charlie, as we would like to see you in Dayton, Ohio as a spectator even though you won’t be able to bowl. Agttin this year, as last year, there was a celebration in honor of Hungarian Freedom Day. This was on March 17th, at the Lincoln Auditorium on Lincoln Avenue. Our Annual Spring Dance will this year be held on May 18th. This dance also will be in the Lincoln Auditorium. Those of you who remember the New Years’ Party will be glad to hear that we have again contracted Frank Sloboda to whose music we had such a wonderful time. To all the bowlers: Our Annual Banquet will be held on May 5th this year, and we have in store several surprizes for the gang. I understand that Frank Szoo had an accident at his place of employment, that his arm was caught in a machine. I do not as yet know how bad this is, but we hope it is not too serious. Joseph Pikolcz, Sr. also on the sick list, which I recently found out. Elaine Mandziara is on the ailing list, but I hear that she is well on the road to recovery. The former Pat Horvath who is now Guare, I understand, is now quartered in her new home. The grapevine tells me that I shall have some new neighbors by the name of Steve and Ann Pinter. Louis Puskarits last Saturday had a pork dinner at his place of business on Irving Park road, which we attended. I saw George Stefely jeweler, with his wife. There was quite a number of members from Branch 15-V at this affair to give Mr. Puskarits and Bob a good send-off in their venture. At this March meeting of Branch 15-V which is the Quarterly meeting, we will have for the benefit of the members and the newcomers a little affair on a buffet basis. There will be a symphony concert here in Chicago for the benefit of the American Hungarian Studies Foundation. The proceeds from this concert will be used to further the Foundation in its efforts. The Foundation has its headquarters at Elmhurst college, Elmhurst, Illinois. It is the only college that has an accredited course in the teaching of the Hungarian language. There will.be several Silver Wedding Celebrations in Chicago this summer ,and among those will be Mr. and Mrs. Tony Barango. Come one and all! Let’s have a good turnout for our Annual Bowling Tournament in Dayton, Ohio. Even if you do not bowl, take yourself a little vacation for the two days and enjoy the Fellowship Days with the bowlers. ANNOUNCEMENT: KEEP IN MIND THAT I WILL NOT BE IN CHICAGO THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF JULY THIS YEAR AS I AM GOING ON A VACATION WHICH I HAVEN’T HAD IN TWO YEARS. LOOK out, you fish in Minnesota. The Taylor’s are coming! I understand that Charlie Schmidt and his wife are going to have a new home built close to Ernie Juhász. Boy, this will be a jump going from the middle of this big city to the extreme edge. NOTICE: Steve, I got your letter. I am sorry that I was not in the office for quite a while on that morning as I had two funerals to take care of on that day. I am sorry that I missed you, but hope to see you in Dayton, Ohio.
