Total: 11,568.23 It seems as though it is getting harder and harder to meet the deadline for the WILLIAM PENN as each month goes by. As a result, the POWER CITY NEWS has been missing from the last two. editions. However, I’ll try to give a summary of our activities for December and January. Our children’s Christmas Party was held December 23d. Our thanks to William Wanamaker who again played the part of Santa Claus. For the New Years’ Eve Celebration, Ozzie St. Cross and his orchestra played in the Social Quarters, while Arthur Nagy played in the upper hall. Due to the hazardous road conditions that night, the attendance at this affair was fewer than it usually is for such an occasion. * ¥ * On Saturday, December 1st, Dorothy Balia and Eugene Miller exchanged vows. Dorothy is the daughter of Director and Mrs. John P. Balia ... Also on this same day, Martha Joyce Lodi and Louis Kun of Acme became Mr. and Mrs. Martha is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Lodi of Cheswick ... Joseph Vincze and Demaris Shepard became Mr. and Mrs. My best wishes and congratulations to the newlyweds. * ¥ * Our Branch 296 extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Mrs. John Lodi, Sr. who passed away on December 31st after a lengthy illness ... Also to Mrs. Alexander Ostovich of Seminole, Pa. whose son. William Vargo passed away in California. * ¥ * On Sunday, December 9th, Branch 296-V held its election of officers. Elected were Louis A. Antal, Jr., president; Paul Sabo, vice-president; Frank Fintor, treasurer; Russell G. Miller secretary; and Stephen Üveges, Sr., controller. Trustees are Joseph Barta, William Mattie, Emery Szalai, Joseph Hamorsky, and Steve Üveges. Jr. Held over from last year are Nick Polombo and Alex Sarkady, trustees. Elected as auditors were Joseph Szalai, Mrs. Joseph Krause and Joseph Bodick, Jr. The HOSPITALIZATION CLAIM PAYMENTS, NOVEMBER, 1956 39-.V Popik Elmer J. 100.00 52-V Vass Anthony 50.00 Total: 150.00 best of luck and a very successful year is wished for the new officers in carrying out their responsibilities for 1957. Continuing as branch manager is Edward A. Mattie. However, a replacement for him is expected to be announced by the Home Office any time now. * % * On January 1, 1957 the members of Branch 538-V Braeburn, Pa. were transferred to Branch 296-V. We therefore, would like to extend to these new members a very cordial invitation to take part in our activities and the use of our branch home. Our meetings are held the - second Sunday of every month at 3:00 P. M. * ¥ * It seems as though news, information and publicity build-up for the coming bowling tournament has been sadly missed from the last two editions of the Journal. I believe that the contents of the December and January editions were all well and good, but I can not see why such an important event as the tournament should be neglected and pushed pushed off the pages. The least that should have been done, if there was so much other news, was to add another page to the Journal. For by this time, the tournament rules, application deadlines, etc. should have been in print by now. * # * Branch 296-V is receiving application for the position of steward at the branch home. Persons interested should contact president Louis Antal for details and applications. These applications must be in the hands of the secretary, Russell G. Miller, 130 Walter Lane, Springdale, in plain sealed envelopes, no later than midnight, February 24th. * & * On Saturday, February 23d, a Get- Acquainted Banquet and Dance will be held. The banquet will begin at 7:30 P. M. The purpose of this affair is to give an opportunity to the members to make thé acquaintance of the recently arrived refugees. Music for the dance will be by Arthur Nagy and his orchestra. Banquet tickets are $1.75. There is no charge for the dance.
