PAGE 6 December 18, 1957. William Penn “A Picture of the Magi" is Christmas Story on Telephone Time Over ABC on Dec, 24 In Telephone Time’s “A Picture of the Magi”, which will be seen over ABC television on Dec. 24, nine-year-old Aranka (Judy Morris), flanked by smugglers Arpad and Melchior (Jan Arvin and Walter Coy, left and right) listen for signs of a Russian patrol as they prepare to dash across the Hungarian border to freedom. Dr. Frank Baxter introduces the story of a child’s belief that helped a family escape from Communist Hungary shortly before Christmas, 1956, on Telephone Time’s “A Picture of the Magi” to be seen over ABC television on Tuesday, Dec. 24 at 9:30 PM EST PST (8:30 FM CST MT). As the story opens, seven-yearold Aranka, who has been reading a book about Jesus and the Magi, is told by her peasant parents to leave the house because a neighbor has come with the latest news of the Budapest uprising. On the way to a friend’s, Aranka seeks shelter from the rain in an abandoned winery. Hiding-out there are three smugglers, Melchior, Arpad, and Ferenc, all wearing heavy beards. Arpad and Ferenc want to kill Aranka — especially when; upon hearing Melchior’s name, she says she knows them from their pictures. Questioning her, Melchoir finds that she has mistaken them for the Magi and that she thinks their loot is a gift for the Christchild. Extracting a promise that she will tell no one she saw them, Melchoir gives her a bright umbrella and sends her home. In the meantime, Aranka’s parents have heard that they must flee Hungary ,but they don’t know how to go about it. Aranka announces that she knows some people who are leaving the country and who will help them. She refuses to break her promise and reveal their identity but when she goes to them her parents secretly follow her and are led to the smugglers. After a stormy scene, Melchoir finally agrees to get them all into Austria. They are almost at the border when they are overheard by a Russian patrol. Melchoir acting as a decoy mdsily breaks away from the group, attracting the Russians who pursue him. As Aranka and the others safely cross the border, a star-like rocket bursts above them — Melchoir’s signal that he can’t escape. Judy Morris plays the role of Aranka and Jean Engstrum portrays the mother. Robert B. Sinclair directed and the script was written by Norman Lessing. Jerry Stagg was1 the producer.--------------------------Silver Wedding Anniversary A Midwest couple celebrated their silver wedding anniversary September 20, 1957. A surprise party was held for Mr. and Mrs. Alex Papp, Sr. of 6015 So. 42d St., Omaha, Nebraska by their children, Mrs. Donald Sindelar, Alex Papp, Jr., and S.P.3 Robert Papp, paratrooper stationed at Fort Eragg, North Carolina, who was home to attend his parents’ 25th anniversary. Two grandchildren, Lynnette Marie Sindelar and Stevie Papp, joined in feting their grandparents. The Papp family are all members of Branch 278-V, Omaha, Nebraska. Mr. Papp held branch offices in the former Verhovay. Our congratulations and best wishes tc Mr. and Mrs. Papp. —GASPAR KUTI Mgr. Br. 278-V Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone. May your Christmas be a happy and a spiritual one, and your New Year healthy and prosperous. Every year, we see more and more slogans all over saying, “Keep Christ in Christmas.” If we do this, then we shall observe this greatest holiday properly. As this Yule season comes upon us with its weather changes, one’s list of sick people jumps up alarmingly. At this writing, Mrs. Frank Veres, Sr. is on the sick list and Mrs. Emery Fabos is home recuperating from a stay in the hospital. Paul Feyes from Clay Center is home after a stay at St. Charles Hospital. Frank Nyári is back at work after a siege of the flu. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nyári should have a wonderful Christmas dinner — 27 people in all, including the grand children from Colorado. We wish these fine people the best in health and happiness over the holidays. Our niece, Darlene Evancho, is home after an operation at St. Vincent’s Hospital. She spent the Thanksgiving holiday there, too. Capt. “Bus” Carone, of the Champion William Perm actual pin team is also home from the hospital. The flu really laid Bus low and he’s slowly recovering enough to bowl. A speedy recovery, “Bus” for we want a repeat engagement in Philadelphia. The bowling in the William Penn Mixed League is getting netter as the Saturdays roll around. Bill Krolak donned Santa Claus’ hat and mask and put everything on the ball — with a perfect pocket hit — he still had 2 pins standing — the usual 8-10 split. His lovely wife Vi had on Santa’s boots and for the third game gave hubby Bill a run for his money. Last month’s column must have dene a lot of g*od for Ernie Belegrin. He hasn’t shot under 500 since and came up with a 237 game to take high single game honors last Saturday nite. Fritz Lesinszki had a rough night — just couldn’t figure the alleys out! About the sixth frame in the last game he found out the reason why. His charming fiancee Lynn Fetzer, stuffed Kleenex into the thumb hole, and Fritz had a short thumb and a slipping ball. The standings of the League up to date are: (Teams are composed of 4 members on each team.) Won Lost Alley Cats 14 4 ' Push-Ups 11 7 Pujas 10 8 Four Aces 7 11 Sputniks 6 12 7-11’s 6 12 Three game total — Pujas •— 1934 Single game total Pujas 713 High three games Lynn Fetzer 534 Woman’s single Lynn Fetzer 209 Women’s high average Julie Hager 156 Men’s high score (3) Steve Ivancso 598 Single game high Ernie Belegrin 237 , Men’s high average Bill A. Smith 179 The house of Hazel and Jim Vischer’s is a little on the quiet side. Son James Dale enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and is stationed at present at San Antonio, Texas. We wish young James good luck in the Air Force. Here’s some advice to the parents: Get your pens filled with ink, for instead of practicing bowling, we think you’ll be spending your free time writing tetters. We have a few good bowling scores, to report: Dick Sendi, 695; John “Ace” Nagy, 692; Eddie Heer, 681; joe Filyo, 668; Junior Powell, 664; Rollie Schmidt, 647 and Rip Tinta, 640. Good bowling, fellas, keep it up. We have some birthdays to mention. Ida Kovács celebrated with a nice family gathering. Bob and Ida also celebrated their wedding anniversary in October .Fritz Lesinszki also celebrated, with V. P. Lynn. Kate Nyers had her son Bill and new daughter-in-law Betty over to help her celebrate. John, her son, is with the Army and is stationed in Germany. Pearl Molnár celebrated her birthday in November. I' must mention the birthdays of two grand ladies that are very dear to us. Mother and Grandmother Elizabeth Krempasky, of Windber, Pa., celebrated on November 11, with a family reunion; and Mother and Grandmother Erma Ivancso celebrated on December 4th. One mother admits to be over 69, but the other one is admitting to only over 59. Isn’t that something? Women even at this age are secretive about their ages. Happy birthdays to them all. Rip Tinta is very hard Pi find these days ,especially off the bowling alley. We won’t tell anyone, Rip, but we think that she’s a very nice lady. As we close this last column of 3957, we have two deaths to report: Mrs. Rose Martin and' Mrs. Joseph Virág. Our condolences to their families . In closing, we should like ta bring an important message to our members here in Toledo: WE CLOSE OUR MONTHLY BOOKS ABOUT THE ,25th OF EACH MONTH, THEREFORE, IF IT WOULD NOT INCONVENIENCE A N Y O N E, PLEASE BRING OR MAIL YOUR DUES IN BY THE 25TH. IT MAKES IT MUCH EASIER WITH THE BOOK WORK, AND YOU ARE UP TO DATE AND NOT BEHIND. YOUR COOPERATION IN THIS MATTER WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Over the holiday season just this advice: Watch your calories. ----------------------------Director’s Mother Dies The mother of Louis Vassy, Dayton, Ohio Director, died November 16, 1957.
