Branch 296 extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Ed Gunia who passed away on September 4th. Ed was Springdale’s better known and well-liked police officer. On Sunday, September 8th, Branch 296 held one of the most worthwhile affairs for quite some time. On that day, the Springdale High School football squad was honored with a “Kick-Off’ Banquet in the organization’s dining-rcom. The banquet was very successful, and it' marks the first time that the local squad was so honored before the start of the playing season. About 80 persons were present including the 50 squad players. Proceedings got underway with welcoming remarks by Louis A. Antal, branch president. Rev. László Borsay, pastor of the Springdale Hungärian Church said grace. After enjcying the food, Charles Desmone, President of the Allegheny Valley Joint School District aeted as master of ceremonies. Mr. Desmone then introduced Michael Lenosky and Donald McGhee assistant coaches.
