May 15, 1957 PAGE 15 William Penn RUBBER CITY NEWS by Steve Yuhasz AKRON, OHIO BRANCH 44-R An overflow crowd attended our “Testimonial Banquet” to open up i the social season of the newly formed William Penn Fraternal Association J Branch 44-R. They heard some fine | music selections by Eva Temesvári and Mrs. Stephen Yuhasz before sitting down to delicious food. After introducing out-of-town and local dignitaries, and a short message from Albert J. Stelkovics, National Secretary, the officers of the three combined branches of our now great Branch 44-R were honored. Bela Takacu, president of the former Branch 91-V, was given a check for $50.00 and which amount he will receive each year as long as he lives. John Nagy received a gold engraved watch and chain to memorialize the 26 years he has devoted to Branch 44-R as president and vice-president. Mr. Takacs had recently been reelected president of 91-V for the 37th consecutive term. Both are now honorary presidents of the new Branch 44-R. Other former officers of these Branches were honored with engraved pen and pencil sets. They were: Branch 355-V: John Takacs, Joseph Darago; Branch 91-V: Steve Toth, I Charles Lak, Kalman Cselle, William I Bodosy; Branch 44-R: George Boskor, James Druszin, Rudolph Ferenci, Joseph Jacobs, Frank Magyary, Andrew Thomas, Alex Vargo. This was just a small token of appreciation to these men for the many hours of work put in for their branches. * Hs * Just a reminder to yon teenagers: If you haven’t as yet stgned up for the Teenage Bowling League, you had better do so right away. The league starts Wednesday, May 22, at 7:30 p. m., at Bories Bowland. We’ve a grand windup planned for you young men and women come ten weeks hence. The person to contact is. There’s going to be plenty of fun and good fellowship for everyone — especially for the children. Each member will receive a letter concerning it about the middle of the month of July. * * * We wish to extend or deepest symypathy to the families of Mrs. Elizabeth Freyler and Anton Kerkovitz in their bereavements. He and his wife have always been very active at the social functions of Branch 44-R here in Akron. I am hoping that I might include some great news about myself next month, as I shall attend the National Printcraft Bowling Tournament in Chicago May 3rd thru 5th and hope to bring home some of that “loot” from the “Windy City”. It would please me and the rest of you if I could write more personal news about our membership than I have been. In order to do this, I need your cooperation in calling in or writing in interesting news of yourself or member friends.
