May 15, 1957 PAGE 13 William Penn \ WILLIAM PENN WATCHTOWER I . f By JOSEPH J. HORVATH — Cleveland, Ohio s We congratulate the bowling committee on its splendid work on behalf of the 14th Annual National Bowling Tournament and National Fellowship Days. We wish each and every bowling member a 650 series — without splits, without a miss. If you must miss, make it a real close one. Regardless of the outcome, be a sport. Sportsmanship will make this tournament outstanding and without it you had better remain at home. True the other fellow may get lucky, but cheer him on rather than begrudge him. If you follow this line of reasoning, I am sure your Dayton, Ohio adventure will be very pleasant indeed. We regret to inform our readers of the death of Sigismund Kadar who was buried April 18, 1957. Our condolences to the family. While we were out of town we learned of the deaths of the followings members: James Kovach, Nicholas Miller, John Mihály. Our sympathies to their families. John Bosway’s son Bill is the very proud father of a son, making John a first-time grandfather to a grandson. He has six granddaughters. Welcome! RUBBER CITY NEWS by STEVE YUHASZ. Years ago we bowled in Akron versus a team which had the Darago boys on it. After bowling we went to the Hungarian Home for refreshments. Then we missed the bus back to Cleveland, but a kind member of the team took us back. Good old days. Today’s professional politician triples as a statesman, social worker on a twenty-four hour call, and is a free entertainer at social functions. The professional politician can not be a clock watcher. The extracurricular activities far outnumber the duties one is elected to perform. The run-of-the-mill requests are very time-consuming and when we don’t win votes we lose them. There are calls for jobs, special appointmeiits, certain matters to be taken up, etc. To keep in touch with the people we represent means attending hundreds of social functions every year. Anything that will make a voter thinic of you kindly is used. If you desire to break into politics, start by ringing door bells for your favorite candidate, or for yourself. Usually the receptions are good. Sometimes, however, one runs into the opposite kind. But let me illustrate: You i-ing the door bell. Then a gruff voice, “Well, what do you want?” You answer, “I am a Candidate for...” and before you can finish, the gruff one says, “A politician, huh!” and slams the door in your face. Not discouraged you go next door and ring the bell there. A “sweet young thing” comes to the door an sings out, “How do you do?” You think to yourself, “This is a sure vote”, so you start in by telling her about your candidate. She listens and replies, “Is that so?” “But I am not registered.” You begin to explain the ways and means of registration. She says, “Oh, must all those questions be answered?” The third door and your ego is deflated a bit, but you go on in spite of all these things. About 400 attended the Branch 14- V 55th Anniversary affair. Dr. Andrew Kovács, Director, was master of ceremonies. Miss Judith Molnár sang the National Anthem. The Hungarian National Anthem was sung by Frank Szappanos. Excellent talks were given in Hungarian by John Sabo, National Auditor, and in English by Albert J. Stelkovics, National Secretary. Vice President Julius Macker brought greetings from the Home Office. Akron Director Frank Magyary spoke in humorous vein. The Sports Club members gave their services at the dinner and at the bar.
