REINSTATED FROM EXTENDED STATE OF NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR MEYNER’S COMMITTEE ON REFUGEE RELIEF CAMP KILMER, NEW JERSEY Camp Kilmer, N. J. — Thou- j sands of requests are pouring into Camp Kilmer from all over the United States requesting information about Hungarian relatives or friends overseas, with relatives in this country hoping that refugees now being processed through here might shed some light on their whereabouts or furnish news from them. To help solve this problem, an ingenious bulletin board has been erected in the refugee mess hall, with a duplicate in the refugees lounge. Here the refugees can scan the boards for familiar names. One side of the board lists names of relatives or friends in the United States who wish to be contacted as soon as the refugees arrive here. The other side of the board contains a list of names of those still overseas about whom relatives in this country are seeking information. These names are listed alphabetically in Hungarian and also listed by town and district. The boards are maintained by Hungarian speaking volunteers throughout the day and evening. A refugee, on seeing a familiar name on the board, will give all the information that he can about the person listed to the volunteer on duty. This information is then forwarded to the American relative or friend who made the original request. In this manner it is possible for refugees to give information freely without the use of their own names if they so desire. The locator boards are being operated by employees and volunteers of the state of New Jersey under the direction of Governor Meyner’s Committee on Refugee Relief. Col. J. B. Dunn, chairman of the committee is in charge of the project. All inquiries should be addressed to that organization at Camp Kilmer, N. J. They may also be reached by telephoning Kilmer 5-5474 or Kilmer 5- 7200 Ext. 367. Leaders Meet . . . (Continued from page 1) Mr. Sabo went on to state, that the great majority of Magyars reject the tenets of Communism because Hungarians love freedom, are religious and think logically. He praised the Hungarian Relief Movement, thanked the Red Cross for assuming the lead, and complimented the people of Alliance for their deep concern and interest. We conclude this article by expressing our gratitude to Alliance, Ohio, to Branch 189-V there, and its president and manager, John Barany and Michael Simo, respectively, and to all the people, societies, clubs and groups in Alliance — all wonderfully working in unison to alleviate the sufferings of the valiant Magyar people and to help the escapees begin their lives anew in America.
