PAGE 16 October 17, 1956- William Penn From Northwestern Ohio BRANCH 27-V. TOLEDO, OHIO 1 By Stephen 3. Ivancso September 22d will long be remembered by Toledo Branch 27-V’s members and their friends. This was the opening night of the William Penn Mixed League at Lido Lanes. Proprietor and member John Rihacek welcomed the fifty bowlers — and the firing — or, should I say, “gutter-balling," started. Scores were from 40 to a plus 200 score. Hazel Vischer and “Rip” Tinta deserve a pat on the back for a job well done in organizing this league. Incidentally, “Rip” shot high men’s total and Hazel was high among the women. At this writing, both Hazel Vischer and “Rip” Tinta are off and running toward a great bowling season. “Rip” is close to a 200 average tin his leagues while Hazel is leading the women in the Blade Queens Traveling League, with a 187 average, a high 3 game total of 636! True Fraternalism was shown by Joseph Hornyak and Andy Rasi. Thse two fine men showed up late, for they had howled elsewhere on a 6:30 shift, had to hurry to Lido Lanes to our league. This makes them bowling a, double header every two weeks. Betty Bochi started like a bang this year, a 507. No report as yet on her sister Gizella’s scores. Mrs. Lois Csengeri .after being out of action for over a year, came through in fine form. This is just a stepping stone to Dayton. Mrs. Gabriel Szabó, of Rossford, and Mrs. Joseph Hornyak, of Curtice, are both in St. Charles Hospital. We wish speedy recovery. As we review the occurrences of the past few weeks — with the world series being history — we must not forget our nation’s greatest event — ELECTION DAY — NOVEMBER 6, 1956. Looking at the roster of Branch 27-V, it makes one feel good to see a member of ours running for office. The former Common Pleas Judge. Hon. Harvey G. Straub ,is a candidate for Congress from our district, on the Republican ticket. “Judge,” as he is known to his multitude of friends ,attended our National Fellowship Days banquet when we held it here in Toledo at the Commodore Perry Hotel. At the Times Traveling C'assic Bowling Banquet, it is a MUST to hear Harvey Straub as its principal speaker. A good bowler himself, and a friend of the Hungarians, he rarely misses one of our the month of beautiful Indian summer and very nice weather is here. It is the time of the year when the leaves on the trees start to turn the various hues that Jack Frost has in his paint kit; the time when most people start to worry about winter’s heating and all the snow and ice that will soon come. In browsing thru the River Grove Moose News, I came across an article that is reproduced here in part. It is about the Moose of the month, our good member and sponsor of one of celebrations. He asks all our members, their families and friends for their support —to elect him to Congress in' November. HYRVEY G. STRAUB In joining the William Penn Fraternal Association, Harvey Straub adds his name to the illustrious group of members from Ohio, which include: Hon. Harold Burton, Supreme Court Justice of The United States; Hon. Frank Lausche, Governor of Ohio, who received a special citation from the William Penn Fraternal Association; Hon. Anthony Celebrezze Mayor of Cleveland; Judge Louis Petras, Municipal Court; and Joseph J. Horvath of Cleveland, “Verhovay Watchtower” columnist running for reelection as State Representative. To Americans who are eligible to vote: It is an honor, our duty and our privilege to vote for the man of our choice. Please do not fail to excercise your right to vote! New members of our branch: Thomas Alexander Bak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kalman Bak; Mr. and Mrs. William Takacs ,their daughter Margaret; Julius A. Rákos, Jr.; Anna Nagy. Welcome! Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Warren Dick on the birth of their son. Mrs. Dick is the former Margaret Mészáros of Consaul St. To members of former Branch 133- R in Toledo: Branch 133-R is merged with Branch 27-V. Therefore, all your dues and correspondence are handled by Yours Truly. For sick report calls, please call the office, TAylor 1535, or my home ,TAylor 9641. More news next month about the Mixed League. “In addition to his activities in the Moose, Charley is a member of the Kiwanis Cl o, Chamber of Commerce, Italian American Club and, believe it or not, the Verhovay Branch 15. The latter is a Hungarian insurance association of which Charley Stuparits its one of the bigwigs. How a pisono got tied up with all these Hungarians is a mystery.” Congratulations to Charlie Restano on his selection as the Moose of the Month. We had quite a sick list the last couple months. Mrs. Joseph Markos BRANCH 15 — CHICA,ILL. By: Ernest C. Taylor, Dist. Mgr. SENTINEL September is gone, and October, our bowling teams, Charles Restano.' was hospitalized for a gall bladder operation. Irene Exner also was in the hospital for an operation as was Matt Balog. Matt is one of our auditors and a good fellow bowler. To all these people: Hurry, get well, as we want you back in good shape and to howl. I understand Irene Exner will be back bowling in the near future. In the month of September our good members Louis Panozzo and his wife Betty celebrated their 16th anniversary, as also your humble scribe and his wife celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. I am sorry to have to report that our good friend and member Joseph Kish passed away last month; also the father of our good members Irma, Louis and Steve Bachi. Our Condolences to both these families. Norby and Joan Farley were presented with a little daughter again, also a daughter to Bill Pinter and his wife. The Pinters named theirs Karen Ann. I heat via the grape vine that the John Benedik’s were presented« with a little bundle from the stork. I am proud to report that in September we had several of our members appear on television in a Hungarian program on the International Cafe show on Monday nights. The player of the tárogató, Magyar musical instrument, was Anthon Skolny. Barbara Ronto and Charles Bunna did a dance. Well, we have lost another bachelor from the ranks when last month Ray Balog went down the aisle to take his vows. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Balog. I hear that Ed Dagdick is slipping now that he can’t even stay on a two foot scaffold but has to fall off! I understand that the Covelli’s are now quartered in their new home in Northlake, Illinois. Good luck! Quite a few of the members of Branch 15-V were there, some dressed in their Hungarian costumes. Each nationality had some part on the program doing Sts native dances, and so forth. DO NOT FORGET OUR SOCIAL LIST THIS YEAR.
