August 15, 1956 PAGE 13 William, Penn Patricia Ann Beli is the pride of Detroit’s Hungarian colony and a youthful credit to the Hungarian name. Recently, during a month’s vaca­tion with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emery Beli, Jr., at the home of her paternal grandparents in Los An­geles, California, Patricia Ann made Hollywood, as it were. The youngster joined the Bob Yeakel Wilshire Oldsmobile TV pro­gram on which were contestants from many parts of the country. First, she placed among the ten best performers picked by the judges, I should like to inform our read­ers in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio that on Tuesday, September 18, 1956 all voting places in the county will be opened for registration, from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. and from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. There are about 2,083 voting places in the county and all will be open. You may also register at the Board of Elections, 1,000 Superior Avenue, N.E., up to and including Wednes­day, September 26th. The board is open daily from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., on Saturday from 8:30 A.M. to 12:00 noon. You are qualified to register if — you are a citizen of The United States, you will be 21 years of age on or before November 6, 1956, you have resided in the State of Ohio one year and county and precinct 40 days prior to November 6, 1956. You must register in order to vote if — you have not registered before, you are a new resident of then in the eliminations she won first prize as ballerina par excel­lence. Let everyone check whether or not he or she is qualified to vote. Stephen Gobocz, a good Hunga­rian lawyer about town, was away on a vacation trip through the Southwest. He showed pictures of his trip to an audience at the Hungari­an Business and Tradesmen Club. Louie Városi went fishing in Ca­nada’s many scenic lakes. We heard that he caught a fish on his birth day. Lucky Lou. Tony and Ann Pinter plan to go to Mexico City for their vacation— three weeks, maybe four. Oscar Federau will spend his va­cation on Buckeye Road this year. The Kastans, Bela and Dorothy, are in Florida again, and the Ora­­vises, Frank, Helen, Virginia, Patty, are at Put in Bay. We heard that Mrs. Carl Pertz was a patient in a hospital. We wish her speedy recovery. No meeting for the Verhovay Sports Club in August. The Sports Club is to have its yearly picnic on Sunday, September 2, 1956, at Tamas farm, Richmond and Miles Road. Admission will be $1.50. Liquid refreshments will be free, but bring your own food. We saw in a local Hungarian weekly that Gabriel Molnár and his wife, Irene, celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary at their home in Shaker Heights with a nice din­ner at which were invited a few friends and relatives. Tommy Rákóczi bought himself a nice home, a six room single on E. 117 St., directly behind St. Mar­garet’s Church. Radio announcer Frank Szappa­nost July 4th picnic was well at­tended. Prominent people were there. A nice program, with a ten piece gypsy orchestra led by Willie Hor­vath, was the main attraction. We saw Andy Bakos, Mrs. Louise Torda, Joseph M. Toth, iifs. Joseph Bod­nar, Mrs. Stephen Szabó, Steve Szá­lai the real estate man, Mr. and Mrs- Louis Tárcái of the Ujsag, and Mrs. Julia Kemeny of the Szabadság. American Legion Hungarian Post 559’s picnic was well attended. There was no admission fee. Fifty door prizes enlivened the affair. We saw John Boda, Mr. and Mrs. Coloman Kolozsvary, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Szabó (he of the county engineers), Steve Vache, John Horvath, John Spisak, William Bill Ruschak (bailiff for Judge Albert Woldman), and others. The grape festival season on Buckeye Road begins with the first Sunday in September and ends about the first Sunday in October. Branch 14 will have its grape fes­tival at 8637 Buckeye Road. William Gall, our Verhovay printer at 124 and Buckeye, will print our campaign cards for the November election. Another one of our lodge mem­bers is waging a quiet but effective campaign for Common Pleas Judge, He is Judge Joseph Stearns. We heard that Steve Vache, Sr. was a patient in the hospital for amputation of his other leg. Really hard going. Let us hope that Mr. Vache will leave in good condition. Pete Shaw has moved to Califor­nia. John Weiland, former treasurer of Branch 14, died and was burieil August 2, 1956. Gur condolences to the family. The wife of Joseph Nagy, Branch 366, was in the hospital and is now recovering. Best wishes. Emery Keszei’s wife was another hospital patient and is now recover­ing. Good luck. We are looking for that new William Penn sign for the homo here in Cleveland. Mary Karnya wrote from Hoi: Springs, Arkansas that she was en­joying the baths and felt age .13 again. Ye voters of Cuyahoga County, Cleveland, Parma, Bedford, anil other towns in the county, check to see whether you are eligible to vote. William Penn Home Cleveland 4, Ohio Air Force Officer From the Canton Repository: In recent graduation ceremonies at Harlingen Air Force Base, Tex., George J. Paytas, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Paytas of 2316 Dale­­ford Ave. NE, was awarded his ob­server’s wings and second lieuten­ant’s commission in the Air Fore©. His mastering of the techniques*­­of electronics and navigation quali­fies him for an assignment as an observer in Air Force operational aircraft. He will receive further ad­vanced speciality training in radar bombardment and electronics after his operational tour. He is assigned to Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. Lt. Paytas is a graduate of Tim­ken High School. * * * To the nice writeup above we may add that this young Air Force officer is a member of Branch 64-V, Canton, Ohio, the family holding six policies and the grandfather was a former secretary of the Canton branch.
