* PAGE 13 June 20, 1956 BRANCH 15 — CHICAGO, ILL — SENTINEL By: Ernest C. Taylor, District Mgr. It is now the month of June and the bowling season is over except for the fellows and gals who will bowl in the summer leagues. In our Branch 15 Bowling League, the Men’s Champion is the team that represented Restano Furniture Co., owned and operated by one of our newer members, Charles Restiano. Much luck and congratulations to him. The women’s division was won by Lens Excavating Team sponsored by none other than Charles Stuparits, Sr. Congratulations to you, Charles on your winning team. In the Monday night Moose League, the team championship was won by Stuparits Construction #2 which yours truly bowled on, and was captained by our popular auditor Joe Hódíts. We had a won-and-lost record of 65 wins and 37 losses ,setting a pretty rough last 5 weeks when we won 14 out of 15 games. Congratulations to all the gang that bowled in this last season, and let’s try to make next season even more successful than the last one. We had our banquet for the bowlers, also the election of officers for the coming season. The elected are Joseph Hodits, President; Ann Barango, Secretary; and Steve Leonardo, the Treasurer. We had our return match with the boys from the South Side and also the fellows and gals from East Chicago, Ind. After cheeking out the won-and-lost record, we find that Branch 15 won 12 and lost 12 games against the above competition, but in total pins we had 18,039 as compared to their combination having 17, 934. Therefore, in the won-and-lost column it is a standoff, but in total pins Branch 15 is declared the win- * ner of this event. A “little bird” tells me that our team, sponsored by Charles Hetzel of Lake and Carroll Avenue, could not even get a bet out of the team that they bowled. I understand that as soon as the fellows heard the name of Hetzel’s Tavern Team they would not even consider a beer frame on a combined team basis. I understand congratulations are in order for Dan Igyarto on his success in getting quite a bit of prize money from some of the tournaments he entered. The Tournament and Fellowship Days are now over. I hear that the men had a very good time there. Who is the member of Branch 15 who bowled an 86 in the team event? What happened to said member? Was the train ride too long? We had a beautiful turnout for our May Dance on the 5th and, from what I understand, it was one of the best affairs that we have had and everyone is still talking about the good time. DON’T FORGET OUR COMING PICNIC AT THE WHITE HOUSE GROVE ON JUNE 24th. FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE CARS AND COME OUT BY BUS: TAKE IRVING PARK BUS TO THE END OF THE LINE; THEN TAKE FEEDER BUS TO THE END OF THE LINE ON CUMBERLAND AVENUE. AT THIS POINT WE WILL HAVE THE USUAL BUS SERVICE TO THE PICNIC GROVE. I hear congratulations are in order for the former Lillian Radi whose married name is Mrs. Les. Takach. She recently presented a new daughter to her husband, the baby weighing 6 lbs, 10% oz. and named Linda Sue. I am very sorry to have" to report that there were two deaths in out ranks in the last month. Joseph Toth passed away after a short illness. Our condolences to Mrs. . Toth Mrs. John Demeter also passed away last month. She was the wife of John Demeter and the mother of Mary and Shirley. Our condolences to the Demeter family. The deceased was related to the Risko, Sabik, Taylor and Barna families. We have welcomed back from Arizona, where they had lived for the past ten years or so, John Kovács and his beautiful wife Jean. They will make their residence in the city of Chicago. Branches Have Begun Donations for American Museum of Immigration In our February issue appeared an article titled “American Museum of Immigration,” in which we acquainted our members with the facts concerning this worthy proposal to establish an Immigrants’ Museum at the base of the Statue of Liberty in New York, the movement having been initiated by The United States. The museum will house a permanent record of those immigrant names which have contributed materially to the welfare of their new home land; will have a Memorial Hall listing the names of groups, societies and individuals contributing certain amounts, such as $5,000 (organizations giving that amount to be indicated as “Founding Members” on a tablet), $2,500 (individuals donating that much will be recorded on a bronze tablet), $10 or more (societies or individuals to be perpetuated on microfilm); and there will also be a Display Room and a large auditorium available without charge to the various nationality groups for patriotic programs. Although sizable contributions from affluent organizations and wealthy individuals are solicited, it is strongly urged that millions of lesser amounts be sent in by the millions of immigrants and descendants of immigrants to symbolize the vast number of persons, from all nationalities, races and creeds, who are enjoying life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in these United States. We are happy to announce that our William Penn branches are placing this solicitation for the Amei-ican Museum of Immigration on their agenda. At their recent meetings the following branches voted contributions for the establishment of the American Museum of Immigration: 19-R, New Brunswick, N. J.—$25.00 156-R. New Brunswick, N. J.—$10.00 These initial contributions from our branches will encourage, wc hope, other branches to follow suit in this worthy cause. Contributions may be sent to the National Committee of the American Museum of Immigration, 270 Park Avenue, New York 17, New York. REINSTATED FROM EXTENDED MARCH 1956 14.
