Those wishing to donate towards this worthy cause, please send your (donations and also a message (which will be forwarded to him) to: Marie Gallovich 7900 Burdeno Street Detroit 17, Michigan On Sunday evening, May 6, 1956, the William Penn Hall of Branch 14, Cleveland, Ohio was the scene of the golden wedding reception of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Szalay, where more than 300 friends and relatives gathered to honor the popular and loved Cleveland couple. Mr, Szalay, who for years was a Verhovay director and vice president, is a veteran booster of Branch 14. He takes great pride in the fact — Another bowling tournament is now history. Branch 296 was represented by 33 bowlers consisting of four men’s and two women’s teams. This was the eighth consecutive year that our bowl­ers participated in the national tour­nament. A total of 13 different prizes were won by our bowlers. And for the first time a bowler managed to bring home a genuine first place trophy. Amongst the woman, Elaine Saellam was the shining star. She won first place in the All Events for trophy and a cash price of $15. She also placed third in the Doubles Event with Mary Toaso for $30.00; and she placed 22nd in the Individual Event for $5.00. May Wesoloski’s team tied for third place with a cash prize of $62.50. They missed first place by 30 pins. None of the men’s team placed, but Roxie Belli and Nino Perino placed third" in the doubles for ac­tual pins with a cash prize of $25.00. The other prizes were for the handi­cap event and are as follows: Doub­les event, Alex Szuch and Nick Po­­lombo 16th place, $17, Roxine Belli and Nino Perino 17th place for $16, Joe Wislie and John Balia, Jr. 31st place for $11.50. In the single events, 35th place Sam Chippetta for $10.50, 58th place John Balia, Jr. for $6.80, 59th place Joseph Wislie for $6.80, 60th place Roxie Belli for $6.80, and 64th place Joe Kowalski for $6. The total cash prize money amount­ed to $218.90. * * The annual bowling banquet of the William Penn Branch 296 Ten Pin League was held on Saturday, June 2d. At its business session the following persons were elected as of­ficers for the coming season: Edward A. Mattie, president; Joseph Balia; vice president; Mrs. Joseph Wislie, secretary; and Jim McPherson; re­cording secretary. and well he might — that every member of his family, including all his grandchildren, are William Penn members. Mr. Szalay has operated a barber shop for many years at East 93d and Buckeye Road in Cleveland and has been a deputy sheriff of that city for fifteen years. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Szalay on having reached their 50fh wedding anniversary! Frank Timko is a pa­tient in the Allegheny Valley Ho­spital due to an injury received at work ... All he caught was a cold! * * H« Branch 296 and its members extend their deepest sympathies to the family of William Gólya who pas­sed away on June 4th. Bill had been stricken with multiple sclerosis for the past ten years. * * * Julius Telegdy, Jr. is spending the summer with his family after attend­ing Elmhurst College in Illinois. * ❖ * The annual picnic will be held on Sunday, July 15th, at Falcon’s Park, New Kensington.
