It was Saturday, March 10, 1956. Gaspar Papp, Chairman of our Auditing Committee, knew of course that it was his birthday and that the occasion would not be ignored by his family. But he did not reckon that on this, his 60th natal day, friends and well-wishers would join his family at 1614 Ford Boulevard, Lincoln« Park, Michigan, by prearrangement, and shout a lusty “HAPPY BIRTHDAY1” when he arrived home and turned on the lights. The secret had not leaked out and so our honored guest was really surprised on his birthday. The emotion-filled event beclouded his eyes with tears. Yes, his devoted wife and their daughter Julia, Mrs. Stephen Danko, were quite successful in their plan to have a surprise party for their husband and father. It is no wonder that Vice President Julius Macker pointed the finger of accusation at his William Penn colleague, remarking that Gaspar Papp no longer possessed the ferretlike abilities he once was able to boast of as a member of the gendarmery in the glorious years of old Hungary. Delicious food and refreshing drinks added to the merriment of the surprise get-together. Guests greeted and wished the honored guest many happy returns. Mr. Macker, long-time friend and associate of Gaspar Papp, acted as toastmaster. ~ An attractive piece of luggage was the birthday gift to Auditing Committee Chairman Papp. The presentation was made by Vice President Macker. The gift was highly appreciated by Mr. Papp for he travels frequently. Vary thrilling for the birthday celebrant was a telephone call from his son, Gaspar Papp, Jr., who is a business man in Tampa, Florida. The long distance call from son to father expressed the best possible wishes for a happy birthday. Telegraphic birthday messages were received from the National Officers at the Home Office and from another Auditing Committee asso- * ciate of Mr. Papp, from William C. Kohut, Secretary of that body. The guest list included Mr. and Mrs. Julius Macker, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bandy, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Marczis, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Heck, Mr. and Mrs. John Denes, Martin Marton. Alexander Ackerman, Jo seph Szabó, Louis Piszker and family, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Samson, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kato, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fers, Mrs. Rose Pajtli, Andrew Tefenhart, Mrs. Anna Trellay, Stephen Danko and family. The birthday party for the' very popular Gaspar Papp, one of outbest known officers and members in the Detroit area, lasted until the late hours. It was more than just a natal day celebration. It was a tribute. Mr. Papp expressed his love for his family, thanked his friends and guests for their attendance, and voiced his special gratitude to his Auditing Committee associate, Andrew Bandy, who with his wife traveled from Depew, New York to fete the veteran officer and member. Through the medium of our official organ, the WILLIAM PENN, the entire membership tenders its expression of birthday felicitations to Gaspar Papp. BRANCH BRIEFS BRANCH 120-V Perth Amboy, N. J. NEW.
