Magyar Matters Debutantes and their escorts wait to perform the traditional palotás (palace dance) during the 61st Annual White Rose Ball held Feb. 2 in Dearborn, Mich. Arts Club hosts DEARBORN, MI - The 61st Annual White Rose Ball (Fehér Rózsa Bál) was held on Feb. 2 at the historic Dearborn Inn. Six debutantes and their escorts were honored at this an­nual event. This formal affair began with a wonderful social hour, followed by dinner, the presentation of the debutantes and the dancing of the traditional palotás (palace dance) by the debutantes and their escorts. Then, the young ladies, follow­ing their introduction into society, danced the first waltz with their fa­thers. That is when the ball officially begins for everyone to dance to the CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Hun­garian Development Panel (CHDP) will host its annual fundraiser banquet~Paprika!~on Saturday, March 30, in the Grand Ballroom of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Cleveland. The CHDP is a non-profit orga­nization of volunteers who promote and support educational and cultural ties between Americans and Hungar­ians in the areas of commerce, educa­tion, health and human services. The event will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the formation of the CHDP and pay tribute to its contin­ued contributions to the Hungarian community of Cleveland and the Greater Cleveland area. The fundraising event will consist of a silent auction, gourmet dinner, 61 st annual ball music of Harmonia. Nearly the entire WPA Board of Directors attended this event to show their continued support for the pres­ervation of Hungarian traditions. The guests of honor at this year's ball were József and Andrea Salamon. Scholarships were awarded to Tamás Salamon and Bryan Szabó. Prior to the ball, a benefactor reception was hosted by WPA Branch 18 member Ursula Markovits and her committee. They also hosted an after­glow reception. The master of ceremony for the ball was Tamás Markovits of WPA Branch 18. European sweet table and possible surprise. Dinner music and dance music will be provided by Swing Time Big Band, which will fit the theme and dress code for the evening, "Swing into the 30s." Over the past 29 years, the Pa­prika! dinner dance and auction has distributed $1 million to fund grants and scholarships to various cultural, educational and service organizations in Cleveland and Hungary. McKeesport club to commemorate 1848 uprising McKeesport, pa - The McKeesport Hungarian Social Club, located at 3004 Walnut Street, will commemorate the events of March 15, 1848 with a program on Sun­day, March 17 at 3:00 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available following the program. Hungarian cooking classes scheduled ALLEN PARK, Ml - Hungarian cooking classes are being con­ducted this month at the Ameri­can Hungarian Reformed Church (AHRC) in Allen Park and the Hungarian American Cultural Cen­ter (HACC) in Taylor. Elizabeth Krajcz will be con­ducting the classes on Saturdays in March from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The featured menu of the day will be served for lunch: • March 9 at AHRC - beef gou­lash and dobos törte. • March 16 at HACC - bean soup, boneless pork loin stuffed with kolbász, sweet & sour cabbage, paprikás potatoes and zserbó. Note: this class will be held at the Hungarian American Cultural Center in Taylor, Mich. • March 23 at AHRC - chicken paprikás with dumplings, cucum­bers and kifli. The cost is $35 per class by prepayment only. No walk-ins will be accepted. All reservations MUST be received by noon on the Wednesday of the week of the class.
