Puzzle Contest #162 with Lizzy Cseh-Hadzinsky r Folqa for C hristmas Growing up, I had many dolls and play sets. My favorites were Polly Pocket, Playmobil and Weebles. I loved those little toys as they could easily fit into my hand and be hidden throughout the house or in the car while traveling. Each Christmas, I would receive various gifts from Mikulás and loved ones, and oftentimes, I would receive one of my playtime favorites. Although most of my beloved childhood keepsakes have since been given away, an impressive collection of those toys were put into storage containers by my édesanya and soon will be passed on to my daughter, Emerencia. Recently, I discovered a Magyar-made collection of toys called Folqa that is similar to my previously-mentioned favorites. These toys are available for purchase on the internet as well as in many stores in Hungary. Each 4-inch tall figure depicts a whimsical folk-type character from the many geographical regions of Magyarország. Currently, there are about a dozen Folqa including: “Betyar-The Just,” “Shepherd-The Starry Eyed,” ‘‘Herdsman-The Persistent,” “Vintner-The Cheerful” and “Csiko-The Skillful”. Each Folqa comes with a collector’s card. Other theme-based accessories can be purchased, such as stationary, jewelry, shirts, mugs and magnets. Folqa were introduced in 2011 by Budapest native Heni Juhász-Váczi, a marketing specialist, while on maternity leave. In a few short months, her idea became a growing business. The Folqa manufacturing facility is located in Főt and has recently been featured in Forbes Magazine. Several new Folqa characters will be introduced in 2019. If you are looking for a unique gift for a child or anyone with an interest in Hungarian items, log onto www.Folqa. com to discover a nice array of gift ideas not only for Christmas but also for birthdays and other occasions. The December 2018 puzzle contains 12 clues. Each clue is the name of one of the Folqa that are currently available for online buying.
