Hope everyone had a pleasant St. Valentine's Day, and don't drink too many green beers with your corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day. Branch 28 Youngstown, OH by Kathy Novak Spring is just around the comer. We hope this mild Ohio winter will continue until spring arrives. Congratulations to the Hungarian Arts Club in Michigan for continuing the tradition of hosting the White Rose Ball for 59 years. This Hungarian ritual of presenting the debutantes is such an elegant event. Those attending can feel the emotion filling the room as the young ladies are presented. We extend much appreciation to Branch 18 for welcoming all those attending this event with open arms and in a warm, fraternal spirit. The Youngstown American Hungarian Federation will be hosting a program to commemorate the 1848 Hungarian War of Independence on Sunday, March 19, at 2:30 p.m. at the Aut Mori Hall on Belle Vista Avenue. This year's guest speaker will be the Rev. Joseph Rudjak, pastor of Holy Apostle Parish, St. Stephen of Hungary worship site. The program will also include traditional poems and songs related to this important historical event. Speaking of Holy Apostle Parish, it has been given the nickname "Stuffed Cabbage Headquarters." The parish's two worship sites alternated making stuffed cabbage each month. This is one of several fundraising activities the parish conducts. Remember to fill out and send in your reservation form for the upcoming WPA bowling tournament. It promises to be a lot of fun for people of all ages. On a personal note, I want to thank all those who sent me well wishes upon my recent early retirement from the Cafaro Company. A big, heartfelt hug to my family for the suprise gathering. Best wishes to all those celebrating a birthday or anniversary this month. Get well wishes go to everyone who is not feeling up to par, especially Dolores Gran, Robert Palotsee, John Morey and Margie Sams. We extend our condolences to those who have recently lost a loved one. Branch 34 Pittsburgh, PA by Marguerite McNelis Happy St. Patrick's Day! Well, the groundhog saw his shadow, but so far we have been very lucky! Please take a moment and pray for all our service men and women, especially those in harm's way. Thank you to our friends in Michigan for the warm welcome at the White Rose Ball. It was nice to be able to spend some time with all of our friends again. It is a beautiful event. The hard work that goes into an event like this is greatly appreciated by all who attend. The debutantes were very pretty and their escorts very handsome. The Rhapsody dinner was delicious, as usual. Thank you, Father Barnabas, for the welcome at Holy Cross Church and the good (short) homily. As always, it was a very enjoyable weekend. A special "happy birthday" to branch members Mitzi Berei, our nephew Bob Healy III, our greatniece Rhiannon, special friend Becky Williams and all branch members celebrating their birthdays. Extra special birthday wishes go to my husband, Andy. Love you very much. We hope that you all are happy and healthy, and may you have many more. Get well wishes go out to our dear friend Mitzi Berei. Get well soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone experiencing health issues.
