WPA joins Ohio fraternalists at annual meetin

INDEPENDENCE, OH - The Ohio Fraternal Alliance (OFA) hosted its 100th Annual Meeting Oct. 13 and 14 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Independence.

The Alliance was glad to have William Penn Association once again become an active member. Representing WPA at the meeting were Vice Chair of the Board Kathy Novak, National Directors Richard Sarosi and Joyce Nicholson and Harry Nicholson, vice president of WPA Branches 40 and 349. Director Nicholson was selected to serve a two-year term on the OFA Board.

Friday's schedule featured registration, a committee meeting and a wine tasting and social. Saturday's meetings included guest speaker Melanie Hinds, Director of Advocacy and Policy for the American Fraternal Alliance, who discussed the latest issues regarding fraternal societies' relations with local and state governments.

Director Sarosi participated in a memorial service honoring members of OFA's member societies who had passed away. A candle was lit in memory of former WPA National Director Albert Frate. Director Sarosi later delivered the candle and program from the ceremony to Mr. Frate's sister Rosemary and brother Frank.

Fraternalists attending the annual meeting of the Ohio Fraternal Alliance, including representatives from WPA, visited the Seven Hills Health & Rehabilitation Center to deliver flowers to the residents.

Fraternalists attending the meeting also visited a local rehab/nursing center to deliver flowers to the residents. It proved to be an uplifting experience to see the smiles on the residents' faces, as they received their flowers.

The meeting concluded Saturday evening with a wonderful dinner during which the OFA presented grants to the recipients of its 2017 scholarship program.
