Branch News Branch 8036 members gather at Stone Villa Winery for their annual "Meet & Greet." Branch 352 Coraopolis, PA by Dora McKinsey The beginning of fall has arrived and with it some cooler temperatures. Enjoy the outdoors while you can. Appreciate the coolness of the early morning and the evening and get out and take long walks if you can. This time of year is especially enjoyable because of all the harvest festivals in our area. Labor Day on Sept. 4 officially closes the summer season. Autumn begins Sept. 22. Start looking in the January 2018 issue of William Penn Life for instructions to apply for a scholarship for the 2018-2019 school year. From what I understand, the rules will be changing slightly. My grandson, James, granddaughter, Lilly and daughter, Sara, recently helped out in their community. In addition to painting a wall in their local park, they helped to decorate picnic tables in red, white and blue patriotic designs. If you have performed any community service projects or have achieved any type of accomplishment, please forward the information to me so that it can be published in William Penn Life. Happy birthday to all those celebrating a birthday this month. May you be blessed with many more, and may all of them be healthy! Hope anyone feeling under the weather will soon be feeling well. We offer our condolences to anyone who has lost a loved one recently. May your memories sustain you through this difficult time. If you need help with any insurance question, whether to change a beneficiary or report a lost policy, please contact me at 412-932-3170 or by email at dmckinsey@hotmail.com. I will be happy to assist you. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Joan B. Ballash Branch 800 hosted its annual picnic on Aug. 2 at Highland Park in Altoona. Guests included Evan Chadbourn, a graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and winner of Branch 800's Religious Education Award. Evan's parents, Doug and Amy, and brothers, Brandon and Adam, joined him. Richard Kiowa, a well-known musician, was also in attendance. It was nice to see senior branch members Olive Savino, John Conti and Bob Cobler. Paul Lasher treated the group to his accordion music. We all enjoyed a picnic meal of hot dogs, corn on the cob, baked beans, tomatoes, punch, various teas, coffee and cupcakes. Hosts Dan and Dennis Greiner made sure there were prizes for everyone. The last holiday of the summer, Labor Day, Sept. 4, is fast approaching. Let's all have one last outing with family and friends. Branch 800 is now back to regular meetings, the second Monday of each month, at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Education Center. Members are welcome. It is never easy losing a loved one, and we extend sincere sympathy to all branch members who have experienced the passing of a person dear to them. Let us remember our Jewish friends on the festival of Rosh Hashanah and the observance of Yom Kippur. All William Penn Association members with notable occasions this month are wished the best birthday, anniversary, end of treatment, etc. September is a good time to review your present and future needs. Branch 8036 Scottdale, PA by Debbie Hauser Once again, Branch 8036 held its annual "Meet & Greet" at the Stone Villa Winery near Acme, Pa. This event coincided with the Winery's "Sangria Weekend," which included various door prizes. After a few raindrops, the skies cleared as members and guests enjoyed an afternoon of refreshments, relaxing music and great fellowship. Attendees were informed of qualifications for WPA's scholarship program, along with details on the WPA Picnic in Hiram, Ohio, Aug. 26. Special thanks to our branch officers and Darlington Inn owners, Elizabeth and Leslie Kastal, for providing a variety of tasty meats, cheeses and crackers. Also, thanks to Joanne Brahosky for sharing her delicious homemade almond dip and fresh fruit. This event is growing each year, and we hope to make it even bigger next year!
