If you missed it this year, make sure you make your reservations for next year whenever the date is set. It's a weekend of fun and entertainment which benefits the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation. We extend good wishes to those members celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this month. Special August birthday greetings go out to WPA Flome Office employees Suzi Robison and Carol Marsh. For information about branch activities, please call Joyce Nicholson at 740-264-6238. Branch 89 Homestead, PA by Lisa S. Toth-Maskarinec Well, the time for our annual golf outing is almost here. We have done our best to make this golf outing bigger and better than ever. We expect the number of golfers to grow this year to over 110, and the number of diners should be over 40. We'd love to see you at Butler's Golf Course on Aug. 13. There is plenty to do and many ways to participate, including donating to our Chinese auction. Some old favorites are back: pre-tee-off wings courtesy of Buffalo Wild Wings served at registration; complimentary soft drinks in all golf carts; and our usual assortment of now classic auction items, including homemade (or in this case, church-made) Hungarian foods (we hear there will even be a Hungarian gourmet basket with some of Chef János' personal creations), an imported beer basket, wine baskets, lottery baskets, golf bags, balls and assorted sports memorabilia, and, of course, the now famous Mystery Basket. We've once again added some new prizes. We will be auctioning off a drone and a large assortment of items from our friends at Omaha Steaks. There is still time to get in on the fun. Don't be shy. Give us a call at 412-872-5022. We'll get a brochure to you as quickly as possible. Our motto this year was "Go Big and Go Golfing." We plan to do just that! The reason why our outings continue to grow is that we give the golfers affordable golfing, good food and terrific prizes. Butler's Golf Course takes excellent care of our group, and we are very pleased with the relationship we continue to have with them. Branch 89 held its Join Hands Day project on Saturday, June 24, at the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Homestead. As the photographs show, both Branch President John Toth and Branch Vice President Mark Maskarinec were among the first to dig in and help beautify and landscape in front of the church. They handled much of the outdoor work while branch members Vera Recktosh, Justin Toth and Ruth Toth handled beautifying the church social hall along with Branch Coordinator Lisa Toth-Maskarinec who was splitting her time between both projects. Jackie Dalton, a friend of Branch 89, provided cold beverages at the social hall. Niesha Duganne and Lisa Whitehead, the church's custodians, came out and cleaned all of the furniture in the social hall and finished landscaping the front yard leading up to the church. It really looks nice, and we are grateful for everyone coming out. Our "Dining for Dough" luncheon at Uno's Chicago Restaurant at the Waterfront in Homestead on May 21 raised over $200. Not bad for a first time attempt and with off and on rain showers. We extend get well wishes and prayers to Mike Parks, son-in-law of branch member Dianne Schneider, who is battling brain cancer in California. We continue to ask God to watch over Mike, Dianne and their family. Stay cool and happy and support not only our branch events but also the various events sponsored by William Penn Association, including the WPA Picnic Aug. 26 in Hiram, Ohio. It's for a worthy cause and is always fun. WILLIAM PENN LIFE 0 August 2017 ° 19
