Branch News Volunteer Rachel Cichowski reviews items to be distributed by Branch 19 members and other local volunteers (pictured above right) during a recent food giveaway at the Bayard Street Presbyterian Church in New Bmnswick, NJ. Get well wishes go out to "Bongo" Tom Kerek who had a terrible accident. We wish him a speedy recovery. I need him at the Hungarian Heritage Experience in August. Get well wishes also go to Doug Truesdell, George Schvarckopf, Joe Csereklye, John Kozarevich, Eleanor Kender, Beata Császár, Ursula Markovits and National Director Albert Frate. We hope you are all better very soon. Happy birthday to Steve Charles, Dora McKinsey and Branch 18 Secretary Rose Antal. We wish you all many more. I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the WPA Bowling Tournament. This is always a lot of fun. I also hope you will sign up for our annual golf tournament in July. It will be convenient this year as the golf course is next to the hotel; no driving once you're there. And, yes, there will be a Chinese auction. Please call me anytime for more info. Please remember our deceased members and their families in your prayers, especially Dora McKinsey on the loss of her sister Cynthia Smith, as well as branch members Sandra Black, Merina Moran and Ethel Rosta. A very special hello to Tom McKee. Nice to hear from you. You will be missed. Remember, I can always be reached at 313-418-5572 or 734-782- 4667. I hope you plan on traveling with WPA to Hungary. We will see so many wonderful things. And join us for our Hungarian Heritage Experience the week of Aug. 6. It is truly a beautiful facility. My thought for the month: Don't let disappointments or a temporary obstacle ruin your future. You may not be able to change what has happened, but you can choose to not waste time thinking about it. This is spring, a time for new beginnings. Love your enemy as yourself. It's a pretty good place to start. (Thanks, again, Father Barnabas.) Kellemes Húsvéti Ünnepeket Kívánok! Branch 19 New Brunswick, NJ by Evelyn B. Bodnar Our branch participated in a food giveaway Feb. 25 at the Bayard Street Presbyterian Church during which 150 people from our area each received four or five bags of much needed and appreciated food. WPA donated food to the effort. Contributions were also received from a food show that was held at the Edison Convention Center the same week as Joe's auction. The food giveaway is held the last Saturday of each month from noon to 1:30 p.m. This project helps many people in need, including retired individuals, those who are sick and the working poor. The church also conducts a flea market on the first Saturday of every month from 9:00 a.m. to noon, with lunch for sale. As always, we welcome any and all who wish to volunteer. For more information, call Evelyn Bodnar at 732-873-1158. Branch 27 _______Toledo, OH_______ by Paula Bodnar The birds are chirping and the flowers are popping out — time for spring to come and stay and say goodbye to winter. Everybody around here is tired of this up and down weather. Easter will be here soon, and we surely don't want the Easter bunny getting frostbite. All graduating high school seniors entering college in the fall should complete the application forms and write their essays for a WPA scholarship grant. All applications and essays need to be postmarked by May 31. Everybody can use some financial help. You can find the application/ renewal form on page 15 of this issue. Mark your calendars for Aug. 19 and 20 for the annual Birmingham Ethnic Festival. This year, we have chosen to donate Easter Baskets to a children's hospital. If there is any member who would like to make and donate a basket, please do so and bring it with you to our meeting April 8 at 1:00 p.m. at American Family Restaurant on Wheeling Street. If you have any questions, you can call Paula at 419-460-7214 or Amalia at 419-726-1109. Happy birthday wishes for April go out to Mitchel Biller, Mark Danisovszky, Ibolya Dudás, Contessa Gainsley, Joyce Gainsley, Haiden Gombash, Laura Gosselin, Aurora Rae Kessler, Vicky Koepke, Joseph Lacava, Peggy Liedel, Jacob Rodri-WILLIAM PENN LIFE 0 April 2017 0 23
