For Starters Branches make Join Hands Against Hunger Holiday Basket WPA colls on branches to old local food bonks PITTSBURGH -- Even though the holiday season is behind us, we should keep alive the spirit of giving even after all of the tinsel and lights are packed away. Food banks across the nation have seen an increase in the number of families who need help. Unfortunately, at the same time, those same food banks also have seen a reduction in the amount of donated items that they can distribute to those in need after the holidays. So, WPA is once again conducting its Join Hands Against Hunger program. From now through the end of March, we're calling upon our members and branches to demonstrate their fraternal spirit by collecting non-perishable items that can be donated to local food banks. All branch presidents will be receiving more information in the mail about this program, including details on how your branch can receive matching funds of up to $50 for participating in this program. We also ask you to send a photo of your branch's volunteers and/or donations which will be published in William Penn Life. The deadline for submitting matching funds reimbursement forms, receipts and photographs is April 1. If you have any questions, please contact Judit Ganchuk toll-free at 1-800-848-7366, ext. 149. □ program a success PITTSBURGH - The spirit of fraternalism never shines more brightly than it does every year during the holiday season. This past year was no exception as WPA branches once again responded with overwhelming generosity to the Association’s Holiday Basket program. Between Thanksgiving and the end of the year, WPA branches donated 99 baskets of non-perishable food and other items worth a total of $4,295 to those in need in their local communities. While we are happy to report that about 60 percent of our branches participated, our goal remains to achieve 100 percent participation. We encourage all our branches and members to continue caring and sharing throughout the year by donating regularly to local charities which aid those in need. One way to continue this good work is by participating in the WPA’s Join Hands Against Hunger program (see story at right), which continues from now until April I. \ William Penn Life invites you to share your personal messages in the pages of our magazine. Therefore, all entries correctly finding the remaining 16 clues will be eligible for the prize drawing for that puzzle.
