WPA Tom* 2016

The WPA Tour to Europe returns Sept. 6 to 20 with a dream vacation leaving from either Pittsburgh or Detroit. Lucky tour participants will begin their journey flying on a jumbo Air France jetliner to Vienna, Austria. They’ll tour the Schönbrunn Palace, take a ride on the Ringstrasse, view the magnificent Lipizzaner Stallions at the 450-year-old Spanish Riding School and explore Heiligenkreuz Abbey, to name a few of the many activities planned.

An overnight stay in Graz will afford the group the opportunity to explore Plitvice Lakes National Park and Schlossberg.

A luxurious bus coach will transport vacationers to the Adriatic Sea resort of Split. Mini-trips by bus will give WPA tour participants the opportunity to see Diocletian’s Palace, Jupiter’s Temple, St. Duje Cathedral, Brae Island, Trogir and Primosten Peninsula, all situated along the Dalmatian Coast.

No WPA tour would be complete without visiting our beloved Hungary. A short ride to Lake Balaton with an overnight stay in Badacsony and visit to the grape harvest festival offers an unforgettable experience, Magyar-style. On route to Budapest, the entourage will stop at Keszthely, tour the Festetics Palace, visit a wine cellar and enjoy dinner featuring live gypsy music. Once at the Hungarian capital, sightseers will visit the Castle District, Andrdssy Street, Great Market and Heroes’ Square, take a night boat tour on the Danube River and have other unique experiences only found in Hungary!

Visits to Eger (where the famous Bull’s Blood wine comes from) and Hollókő (a World Heritage Site) round out this oncein-a-lifetime travel experience.

The farewell dinner will take place at my favorite Budapest restaurant, the Mátyás Pince. This location was originally the Dreher Brewery. The cellar features an ornately carved wooden and colorfully painted décor depicting various highlights of Hungarian history. The food and gypsy music are second to none.
